To say the EVE Online community is passionate is an understatement. Typically changes are met with a mix of praise and criticism, pretty usual for most games, but EVE typically garners more passion in its criticism from players. A recent sales pack by the developer has many high-profile players joining the chorus of critique, however.

Shouldn't be a surprise since if memory serves me right, they were aquired/bought by a large asian company(Tencent?).

Pearl Abyss, of BDO fame actually. Have to earn back their $400M purchase somehow.

To say that CCP is clueless is an understatement.
So they sold it to Asian plunderers and now they will see their brainchild wither away.

Was there not a new bunch of changes to mining and industry a while back?

First create the problem... then sell them the solution. Sounds like perfect plan right?

    This.

Game development is now driven by the need to put in grinding so that you will buy potion/buff/perk to avoid the binding.

I'd like to thank the FTP/P2W crowd for this nonsense.
To be fair, it really isn't the gamers who actually play for free who are to blame, rather the customers or whales who support the model, right?

If I'm being honest I am part of the problem.  In addition to paying Zenimax several box prices for ESO along with a monthly sub I have spent about $250 on Crowns in less than a year.

Perhaps not whale levels but there's enough like me to keep encouraging developers to do so further.

As is often said, if there were no addicts there would be no dealers either.

come to mortal online 2. game is buggy, content is lacking but devs got some vision and are not after your money.

mo2 got some true eve-online 2004-2006 vibes running back when ccp was a better company.

EVE has long sold PLEX which sellers can use to buy resource advantage, a sub that gives advantage for offline skilling, and outright selling of skills by players. So I'm having a really hard time buying the outrage over "P2W". Sounds a lot like the guild cartels who used to benefit from controlling and
selling the market are pissed about being cut out of the loop more than anything.

There is a difference. Its subtle, granted, but its there.
PLEX is just a currency. It can be used to buy benefits that cannot be produced by the ingame economy. (Game time, skins etc.) For you to obtain actual ingame goods (ships etc.) they have to be build as a product of the ingame resource economy. And to do that, you have to sell your PLEX for ISK, thus converting you exa-game-currency for in-game-currency.
By selling ships, they are just spawning in items, in direct competionion to their own ingame economy. And that has from day one been considered a bad behavior by CCP by the community.

I'm enjoying MO2 as well but we'll be paying a monthly fee, so they will be after our money at some point when they turn that on.

With a monthly sub the goal is to keep you happy so that you continue to play.
With a store the goal is to keep you unhappy so that you pay.

I don't fully agree, I like cool ass skins lol
See POE, unless you toss down some serious cash you'll be walking around looking like a murder hobo.

Eve Online I think is facing a problem thats quite possibly intractible without this sort of shenanigans, which is to say, skillpoint inflation. When I first played eve , 2006 thereabouts, it was still possible for a gang of newbies in cheap frigates and trash tier cruisers to participate in a meaningful way in the big wars that form the core narrative of the game. But theres no skillcap in this game, and new players have to compete in universe against players with 15+ years of skillpoint growth. Every time I try and return to the game, my skillpoint count is more and more behind the pack, and whatever meta I had grinded for in the past has well and truly been relegated to the wastebin of history. With my 70 mil skillpoints, I'm a total nub, and that was 3+ years of grinding. God help someone who wants to start the game today and actually participate in this big wars in a satisfying role (Those stealth bombers where a newbie godsend, but I doubt theres still a stealth bomber meta anymore, just as interdictors had made rifter tacklers redundant.)

That means CCP has to seriously rethink some things. I've long suspected Eve-O's player numbers are hugely inflated by the multi-boxers, Eve could be in trouble if something doesnt change, though I fear the user base might reject anything in that direction.

Like a jealous overprotective boyfriend, the player base might be loving this game to death.
