So sad. Own and liked the game, but don't see a future for it anymore.

Imagine buying a Valve Index to play this game in VR then finding out they stopped VR development because of Odyssey.

    ..Because I did.

I'm not sure what's more disappointing; the development of Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen/Squadron 42.

Well Odyssey is out even if you don't like it so that's apples and turnips really. But from what so many have said Odyssey has been a big misstep, still they may recover from it.

This seems like a jest.  Right?

I like Elite Dangerous a lot, but it takes too long to accomplish things. I remember watching a how to video and the guy said “If you play casually, 4 hours a day”…………. In what world is 4 hours a day casual?  The world of ED.  There are just too many grinds.  I know I can avoid them.  I did, but it is nice to show progress and some things you cannot progress naturally at. You have to focus on on it.  Great game that was designed for people who want to devote half their life to.

When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

Still has the best flight simulation I've ever played.
Flight assist off is a true challenge and fun once you get the hang of it.

I like NMS but the flight control is so bad I just cannot play it.
I still cannot get the hang of unassisted flight. I'm so uncoordinated.

I use unassisted and also run like 5 scripts on my razer at the same time lol.

ED is still the best imo. I get salty af at times. Like whole years of salt but i still own like three copies across various platforms and log in like once every so often to see how the ratting scene is.

Don't like the no man sky way of things but that's the game and at this point it's a cheap adventure for all.

The only good thing in Elite is the combat itself, I'm a founder so I am not hating but the rest of the game, the grind etc is a bit crap and half arsed.

Frankly if SC can ever truly release and just does half of what it wants to Elite will be in trouble big time especially if odyssey is the direction they want to go in since it been a huge mess and clusterfudge no one really wanted.

I like the idea of legs but again they half arsed this and not only half arsed it but dumped VR which has been a focus of this game since before it released....Braben will ofc continue to pat himself on the back for his "genius"...

They have assisted flight, like training wheels? Please tell me that was brought in for consoles and the PC did not have to suffer such an embarrassment? :)

Flight Assist | Elite Dangerous Wiki | Fandom

Was in PC since the beginning. It is not an "embarassment", it's just countering inertia when you stop inputting some movement. I believe most players play with flight assist on, which is also the default.
Hmm have you played all the Elite's? What you are describe seems similar to Frontier Elite, they decided to go with real world physics. Where as the original game already had "inertial dampening"; if i remember that correctly, it has been over 25 years since I played either game. If that is all it does then then it leans to game more than simulation. Which I think is a good thing, simulation ads depth but often causes gameplay issues, there has to be a balance between the two. Frontier was an absolute pain and the sales suffered for that.

I used to play Elite all the time myself. I actually got into some of the other stuff because how frustrating pvp and combat could be at times, especially combat logging.

I agree with you combat needs to be worked on, but there was something cathartic for me about just moving cargo to help my faction.

FAon is for the average gamer that wants airplanes in space combat and FAoff is for sim fans that want truer physics.    Most people wont like FAoff and are not set up for it.

Personally without a proper hotas or hosas I would not be able to play this game..lol

FAoff allows you to pull some really good combat moves that frankly are just not all that possible with FAon but you have to git gud at it.  Lots like me have a toggle for FAon/off as we fly FAon but toggle FAoff during combat to pull certain moves and take out others, both players and npc sometimes, that think we dunno how to FAoff.

I mean the amount of people that have trouble just learning how to manually land and take off...FAoff is just not for those players.

It would be like getting your 12 year old drunk and then chucking the keys to your porche to them and saying have it!

not against anyone who loves and still support the game but it was extremely shallow , required outside websites to help balance it, so as a console player it made the experience much worse. your punished for having flight assist since it take a spot that could be used for something else, for bigs as ships are you would think they would find way to have assisting built in to a ship without it been a hindrance since they want go on about realism.

you can fly for literally hours to see a random sight then be prepared to fly for hours just to get back. sure you can hitch a ride on a carrier? forget name but that just ignoring that tedium truth. their not lot ships variety, the few that exist are just upgrade of other one that fall in one 3 classes trade, fighting, exploring.

even ignoring all that the game is still shallow boring, the missions feel empty the galaxy you find tend to blend together, minus the random few that are rare sites worth seeing, trying land and do those missions are annoying vs a starport,

bla, bla, bla i wanted to enjoy it i really did, played for 100 or so hours but instead of enjoying the game more as time went on i got more bitter and was waiting for the updates to make it better now reading Odyssey is crap i don't regret walking away and never playing again thu i do want a game like this just not eve or this one.

I think you misunderstood/confused FA on/off with auto assist docking module. They are two different things.

When I mentioned sales had suffered due to it being too much of a simulation I was thinking of the Frontier Elite game, not the latest game. The new on/off inertia mode might be handy then for some interesting manoeuvres, will bear that in mind as I am starting the game this year.

I remember my first fights in Frontier Elite and just not being able to engage with enemies as we shot past each other until I got the hang of it, happy days. :)
