I was just reading a thread on EnB and that made me think of making this thread. I've been thinking about the MMO's that just didn't make it and was wondering how many I never even heard of or got the chance to play. So have you played an MMO that was canceled? What was it? And why did you think it failed? I look forward to hearing from all of you on this one and Happy Gaming all.

WISH by Mutable Realms.
Ehh, the graphics weren't that great. I didn't like the click to move controls either. The game was difficult as a newb as well. Just overall wasn't a good game.
The only other one I know of is Asheron's Call 2.
I didn't actually play it, which (with the desire to focus more on DDO and LoTR) is probably the reason it was axed.
Motor City Online
E & B
AC2
MMO's that never even made it to live:
Dragon Empires
UO2 and another UO sequel
Wish
probably a few others that were barely talked about
There are still a few that are close to shutting down as well.
Black Moon Chronicles, cancelled sometime in 2001 i think
the original 'comic book graphics' mmorpg. i dont know why it was canceled, i played in the beta and there were bugs but nothing compared to what we put up with now.
That will never happen though. EA has better things to make money off of, like the Sims and shitty sports games, and they own the rights to make a game for basically every movie made today.
"There's no star system Slave I can't reach, and there's no planet I can't find. There's nowhere in the Galaxy for you to run. Might as well give up now."
Boba Fett
EA actually started twice creating a 3D Ultima Online and both got killed. THe first one actually looked pretty good at the time the second try looked quite funny they had a playable Hamster Race.
I remember that game! I used to play it fairly often. I think it got canned because of the lack of player interest. They maintained the servers for a while after it got cancelled, then finally shut them down. Too bad, the game had potential.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
I dunno the UO2 looked very promising back then.
I think it would have made a big impact.

Was going to try Priest but it seems to have gone bye-bye too.
Ones I've played that've gone tits up? AC2 and Earth & Beyond. You can add Horizons to that list fairly soon, I'd say.
Oh dude, a hamster race!!!! Whoa. That's why I spent so much money on my gaming rig, so I could be a hamster. WHO GIVES A CRAP WHAT THE RACES ARE?

EA killed Battletech 3025 as well. Which if you are a battletech fan looked fricking sweet!
I remember really feeling like AC1 was on to something with the way the spells were *created not purchased. Reagents etc for spells I thought made the difference between a typical hack and slash and something that I could get emersed into.
Why Turbine turned away from this system in AC2 is beyond me but I sure would like to see someone do some ground breaking work like that in a game again.
AC2 was simply a demo of Turbines Game Engine. If they put 1/2 the effort into the game as they did the engine they could have made the game worthwhile. Turbine shoved out AC2 in order to make their next milestone payday and the AC fans were the ones that suffered. It seems like the same thing happened with DDO and I don't have high hopes for LOTR Online.
AC took 5 years and it was one of the best MMO's I have ever played, with AC2 they took huge steps backward. If they would have just imported the components of AC into the new engine it would have lasted longer.
