Seems a bit outdated and old.

Useless article to try to pick up clicks, even the images are strange to try to trigger users. Do not even have an Asian MMO. It could have been a good article.

I miss Rift, I wish Trion had not gone under trying to grow too fast into markets they were not ready for.

The version that exists now is a pale immitation of the game that got me back into MMOs after my first burnout on them and was for a while my favorite of them all.

CoH hands down, I know it is not official out now but it is still top dog.

It isn't CoH. It was behind CO when the game was live, and the customization in CO is far more varied now that in was then. It's not even even close to being a contest now.
Iirc, City of Heroes was the first to offer the opportunity to completely divorce your character's look from equipped items.

It was a big deal then, and for good reason.  It offered customization far beyond what had been seen in the genre up to that point.  It deserved a spot on the list for that imo.

Champions was an evolution of CoH.  It even involved some of the same people.  In the end, it merely built on a path forged by another.

CO was built on the foundation of CoH and they ended up with a lesser MMO, go figure.

As far as character creation I really liked how ESO did it. Sadly it was the highlight of the game and after creating one it was all down hill.

As far as customizing your class I'd say Rift did it really well. Unfortunately I had to quit the game as the potato I was playing on at the time, couldn't handle the spell graphic light show in raids. I've always wanted to go back but don't trust the company running it to spend the money to buy all the content I'm missing.

I really didn't like Champions Online. I thought it was a shallow game compared to City of Heroes/Villains/Going Rogue. I was not impressed by their customization either but to be fair I didn't spend time making a gazillion alts like I have on City of Heroes so I am in absolutely no position to tell you about their customization options. I was disappointed when DCU released it had quite limited options in comparison to City.

Well, individualization in MMOs is nice, but I dont want hundreds of sliders. Thats just obnoxious and ends up requiring hours of work because you tend to screw up somehow all the time and then have to restart.

What I want in the end is just a good looking character, that however also looks unique.

One can archieve that already with providing a couple good choices in various categories, like:

    - body properties: height, shape, muscle size, hairdo, breast shape (women only), beard (men only)

    - face properties: shape, eyes and brows, nose, mouth and chin, facial scars, facial tattoos

    - colors: skin, hair, eyes, lips (makeup), eye shadow, tattoo

So I came up with 17 categories here, just as an example. With a reasonable number of choices for each of these categories (like 5 heights, 5 body shapes, 5 muscle sizes, 20 hairdos etc), its unlikely that any two characters are completely the same unless the players actually planed them to be the same.
