This game is gonna be a sleeper for a a long time, but on the upside it will convert alot of WoW, most of daoc, and the rest of eq2'ers that couldnt stand wow.
You will see a older crowd then wow and that will attract ALOT of people, as more and more people older people leave, others will follow.
When daoc was first introduced it took me almost a year to transfer over from EQ1. At that point I wasn't really playing every mmorpg out there, like I am now so I will be jumping on this one early, but that being said there realy arn't that many of us out there.
I still have people strolling into my EB going hey, do you guys have wow, I just heard about it from a friend. The growth of WoW is unbelivable, and it has done SO much for the mmorpg market, even if it gets 1/10th of the wow players the fanbase will be there.
As far as im concerned let the kids play wow, ill play WAR, where pvp will actually mean something. If wow makes some revolutionary changes in the upcoming expansion ill be first to know, but I doubt they will.
Wow is alot of fun pvp wise, if you like pointless, endless pvp.

hmm coming from someone who has played daoc since release.... (5 years i think its been)
i think your right. i love mythic and think they did an awesome job on daoc. but im losing interest having played so long. ive done everything. ive played every class to at least 39 and im just getting bored.
i honestly think this game will be the one ive been looking for. ive played wow but always got bored with the nothingness (as i call wows pvp/ endgame content)
I would not call the top-hyped unreleased game a "sleeper", but i agree with the content of the original posting. The second poster, too

"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
People will come from all MMORPGs, and it will add new players, as all MMORPGs do.
D
Warhammer fantasy is a real nice world, especially if u can play people from Nuln or the Chaos, i love em both.
The only problem that i see with this game is that the engine doesn't seem ultra powerful, the screens have quite poor textures , will see how it goes with dev !
But, to me, Mythic remains the best MMORPG company over there, been in DAOC warden beta test team, and out of the many games i tested since EQ, this was the one and only time i felt the devs so close to testers, always listening to community and doing great changes.
So i really thing this has the biggest potential (maybe with POTBS) for the next years, if they can meet up the technology challenge !
You're a Hardcore Survivor!
You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!
Id like too see nice gfx yes, but..excellent PVP and customization is more important i think, good luck to Mythic, they got tons of EXP under their belt . Nice Gfx would be a bonus from what i hear about this game.
But one thing is for sure, I would estimate that at least 100+ people from each WoW server will come over to WAR. And that's just 1 game with a low estimate (~100 servers = 10,000).
Then add in the people waiting from all the other MMO's. And then add all the Warhammer fans in Europe and the US, regardless of being an MMO player or not.
Maybe more depending on the info (pics, movies, reviews) that comes out of Beta if there is no harsh NDA. If they are shooting for a long Beta I hope they go with a NDA though. If they don't Blizzard will try and steal their ideas, since WoW is basically just an amalgamation of every other MMO before it, and the Warcraft lore is just an altered copy of the Warhammer IP.
Man I hope I can get into Beta somehow.
I think people try WAR and the integrated PvE/PvP system Mythic is using along with the RvR mechanic and then the gameplay will spread by a word of mouth esp. if Blizzard hasn't done anything to really overhaul their own PvP system by then (And judging by the way they're handling the PvP upgrades, the overhaul hasn't started well)
But then they also said there will be a year long beta for WAR so that might be enough to generate some hype too.
Rofl, that's awesome!
Don't worry, they'll get steamrolled in PvP and go running back to WoW or whatever game they came from.
One thing is for sure, this game will be brutal. Make no mistake. This is Warhammer not Warnapkin.
Another thing is Mythic won't be taking nerf bats to classes because of whiners. They've learn their lesson from DAoC I firmly believe. Plus the game is going to be STRICT about beta testers. In other words, this isn't a demo of the game. It's a test to see what's wrong. Treat it as a demo and buh-bye.
Plus having a year long beta with that kind of strict atmosphere is going to work out a ton of bugs.
This is a good thing!
I rather doubt that - Blizzard has been promising improvements to PVP for over a year now, and has actually taken things out of the game that Mythic is putting in (Mythic has sacking the enemy capital as a goal, Blizzard strongly discourages even messing with a town). I can't see Blizzard trying to steal what Mythic is doing when they could have easily had it first but have been actively working against it.

You took words out of my mouth
As far as customization, I've heard that they'll have some armor painting and 'trophies' that you can wear on your character, like dwarf skulls and beards you can put on your orc - sounds good to me!
Edit: Here's a quote from GU comics talking about some of the cool customizations in WAR
Q: A recent list of game features indicates that armor will be "customizable". Are we talking about the standard level of customization: armor dye? Or are we talking about something more inventive and "next generation"?
A: We are talking about armor dye and so much more. You'll be able to "turn on or off" bits of armor to customize its appearance, as well as tack on new pieces to complete the look. Don't like that metal pauldron, turn it "off" so it no longer shows or replace with a giant animal skull. We'll have more on this feature in the future.
This sounds fricking AWESOME!!

like i said i dont see whats so great about this game because their is NOTHING different about it from other mmorpgs.
Nuff said.
(But there is plenty more as well if you care to look. Tome of Knowledge anyone?)

"There were much of the beautiful, much of the wanton, much of the bizarre, something of the terrible, and not a little of that which might have excited disgust."
'Nuff said? What about "And I can't say this enough - EVERY class will be a combat class. Nobody will be running around, healing all day long and trying to stay out of the fray!"
I wouldn't call this a sleeper, most MMO'ers know who Mythic is and know what they can do in respect to gameplay. The game already has the biggest Hype on this site, all the games i've been keeping an eye on have all been forgotten, or i've lost interest in.
The textures and such do look rather dated, and actually so does the engine (and that's quite scary considering the game will be in-development for quite some time yet), but that's not putting me off at all. I've got my standards for a game which is mostly gameplay and longevity (i need a goal). The feel of the game comes next, but, if it's really bad it will spoil my gameplay. Then after that, the pretty pictures.
I have played WoW but i had to give it up, my goal was to become High Warlord but waiting -on average- an hour in a queue to play just one game was getting me pissed off, the game was too stressful (it's a fucking game, they're not ment to be stressful!), so i got to Rank 11 (for the cheap mount) and cancelled my account until they sort out the PvP.
I do think WAR is going to have some competition with WoW, though. If Blizzard sees Mythic as a threat, things could get nasty... but not for us. Blizzard has a lot of money which they'll eventually use to invest their employee's time to update WoW to what it potentially could be (basically, steal gameplay tips from DAoC) and what the community of hardcore PvP'ers want. If this happens i could see some great ideas coming from Mythic which they won't release until the launch of WAR, on top of what we're all (atleast, those who have played DAoC) are expecting, RvR goodness.
This is the sort of competition that the gaming industry needs, as gamers we're stuck with lazy developers that are much much more concerned about the amount of money that's in their back pocket. This doesn't stop at MMORPG's, look at EA and their BF2, it's too "noob" friendly and lacks vital gameplay elements that hardcore gamers need. It's the same with WoW, they cater for the kiddies that can just jump on the game and play (dueling outside IF/Orgrimmar, and comparing their "Uber" gear and mounts), because it's "good" business.
I know Mythic doesn't lean that way, and that's why i respect them and i really wish i could support them by playing DAoC, unfortunatly for me, it's really hard to get past the awful animations (i've said this a thousand times now) and believe me i've tried, twice. I know i'm not alone on this, i've tried to get friends to play but they can't get past the bad "feeling" of controlling your character in the game. I hope it's money issues with Mythic that made them not to update the engine to something more modern and smooth, because DAoC had the potential of being the best MMO, ever.
Oh and even the guys at purepwnage.com have had their say of how games are lacking lately, so it must be true!
