Blizzard has announced a new program that hopes to use existing players to recruit new players for World of WarCraft. As an incentive, they are offering players who sign up their friends for subscriptions (after a 10-day free trial), 30 days of game time:
There's never been a better time to invite new allies to join your guild, as we've just launched the Recruit-A-Friend program. Just log in to the account-management section and click the "Recruit-A-Friend" button or go directly to this page to start sending free 10-Day trial keys to your friends. Rest assured that your valiant efforts will be rewarded: for every one of your friends who converts to a full subscription and pays for a month of game time, you will receive 30 days of free game time credited to your account! Blackrock Spire, Battlegrounds, the coming Naxxramas Necropolis...the world of Warcraft has never been more dangerous, so you'll need all the help you can get if you want your side to prevail in the coming conflict. The time is here to recruit your allies and stand united under one banner. Good luck, and see you soon in Azeroth! Click here to Recruit-A-Friend! |

Since several players leaving WoW with good reason, Blizzard needs new hole-filler...of course.
I think it is more a case of the Left Hand not knowing what the Right Hand is doing. Marketing & Sales are trying to increase business, for whatever reason. But I wonder if they are talking to the techincal people about whether the Servers can handle many more folks. I think not. This last week was a disaster with the Database system fiasco and general server overload.
With the new hardware, the queues are starting to diminish, but there are serious lag problems in-game all the time now. And these lag problems are all Server side as everyone gets them at about the same time.
They need to get their Hardware and Software in a better state before they start shoveling even more players onto the system. Perhaps they feel that if there are no Log-On Queues, there are not enough subscribers.
Just my 2c
I agree with you 100%
I love the old Blizzard.
The StarCraft creating Blizzard, the WarCraft III innovation Blizzard. I hate the World of Warcraft, fiend, take the money and run, Blizzard.
Before WoW was created, Blizzard was my favorite game developers, really caring what people thought, and improving on games. Now, they're just a money hording pack of SOE clones. Why do good things always happen to good people?
