Tera has always been the game that I went back to from time to time, just to enjoy the combat. Spent a lot of time there, on and off, in the EU and NA versions, saw the great migration when EnMasse was still good and GF was the villain, then went back to GF after EnMasse closed. It never was my main MMO, but it was always nice to be able to return there and have a blast with my gunner.

Even now when I went back a couple of months ago, 10 years after its release the combat was so much fun and still holds its own against the competition. I actually prefer Tera combat over Elyon's - and that's the same studio, only a decade later. There wasn't that much more in Tera, but for that specific aspect, there were very few better games (especially back in 2010s). And since the update for modern HW was done, the game has been running so smoothly it is a wonder...

Pity that now when I wanted to give it a few last shots, the download does not work, it's permanently stuck at 5%, restarting it several times does not help, reinstalling does not help - nothing helps. Oh well. I have my physical box for nostalgia purposes and I will keep my fond memories, regardless.

Since gameforge took it over from Enmasse all my characters are gone. Oh well. Too bad this game has to die and Bless keeps on living.

    The ...fuck?

This is so screwed up; they are shutting the game done- it's never coming back most probably, and what they care about are promotions and trying to hit a 10th Anniversary mark?

"Happy 10 years of mostly not-a-great-experience, now please, go to the trashbin."

Also; and i cannot beleive this was happening, so i had to check over at gameforge just to make sure- but...... they are STILL SELLING STUFF.

    How slimy is that??

"Here, here's 80% off stuff that's going to magically disappear, just like your commonsense, idiots!"

You know... over the years, I've given Gameforge quite a lot of shit and lambasted them for so many different odd choices they've made, and their varying degrees of predatory behavior; and there have been times, many times where I've thought to myself: "Am i being too harsh on Gameforge?"

And then i see shitty things like what they are doing now, and i can safely say.....

It's mostly to allow people with remaining store credits to spend them before the game disappears. Which is actually ok, since there are no refunds. So instead of your remaining store credits just vanishing, you can have a bit of a splurge on random store stuff before the end.

They have already announced that the ability to purchase credits will be disabled at the end of May; Tera shutting down is widely known - so if anyone still wants to spend cash before the end, it's on them.

I would expect that before the very end - last week, perhaps - they will just unlock all store stuff for free and let the players face the end in style.

Yes, I don't see this as trying to milk it, who is going to put money in now? This is a stark warning though, for anyone out there who thinks they own anything digital. Gaming is soon going to embark on an NFT and crypto bonanza, but it will be a bonanza for the studios not the players.

I have fond memoires myself, but it was too much of an A to B tinyMMO for me long term. Still we had some good times, you can't put a price on that.

It's really a shame since there 'is' a decent game here. But its ui is so bloated and convoluted getting in, or even coming back is very difficult. The .... gear.. system too, was a.. letdown. But still, probably the best guild I've ever been in and it's sad to see it go, even if its ui and systems always prevented me from playing....

Really wish these game wern't just vaporized. Release server code out into the wild and let the community decide if it should die.
Maybe leave it for sale for a nominal fee so people who want to try the community run servers can still get a copy.

Thing is tera 2 was leaked in the Nvidia hacking scandal via the geforce now list. Wouldn't surprise me if we hear from it in 6-9 months. They canned it now so they don't have to keep both games next to each other

I'll disagree there. It's there property, they should do what they want. It's also their IP and they might want to do something else with it.

I think a game that requires server infrastructure to function should not be taken away from those who paid a purchase price for the product if gamers are able and willing to set up server infrastructure on their own without profiting or costing the developers.

Imagine an auto manufacturer shutting down your car and forcing you to buy a new one because their safety monitoring programs aren't being supported for your model's chip anymore.  Your old one is now useless unless you pay them for a new chip to be installed.  And since that chip governs safety systems for the car, you can't start the engine anymore without a functioning chip (for safety!).

The fact that they aren't supporting a remote network infrastructure used by your car shouldn't mean they should be able to render the car completely useless.  Especially if the owner is willing to find their own infrastructure to support that car at no cost to the manufacturer.

I would even say limiting the ability to modify the game's contents in any meaningful way (such as adding content) could be at the discretion of the IP owner since they may dislike something written by a fan they find does not conform to their intent for the IP.  But removing all access simply because the dev doesn't want to provide server infrastructure?  That blows, quite frankly.  Seems a little one-sided.

Okey, i can get behind that for sure- because... yeah, i don't see them issuing refunds from a specific point: X up to specific point: Y (which would be the right thing to do, but we live in reality sadly. ) :(

I honestly hope some people pick up the pieces and create a Private server; unless they end up selling off the assets and we begin seeing all of TERA's art assets in future crappy mobile games (which is what usually happens to old art assets these days)
