Torchlight was a great series, but at times........People behind the games wants to change something that did not need changing.

I don't know what happened, but after the 2nd game, it went bad. Maybe the developers changed. Torchlight 1 and Torchlight 2 felt like Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 respectively. T1 offered a single town with a multiple levels of dungeons below the town, just like D1. T2 offered an overland world where the character travels to different lands and experiences different biomes, cultures and themes, kinda like D2. I've completed all games except for D1, which was too tedious and slow for my taste, but I think Torchlight games were somehow easier to enjoy as a casual player, but Diablo games had the better theme and more replay value.

Torchlight 3 was bad like Diablo 3 and after that both franchised are dead.

TL1 and 2 were developed by Runic Games, TL3 was developed by Echtra Games, a completely different company, which explains the radical departure in quality. Also, TL3 was MUCH WORSE in comparison to TL1 and 2 than Diablo 3 was to D2. D1 wasn't exactly awesome, btw, other than it was first, but I digress. Imagine taking D2 and turning it into a cheaply built mobile game with all the trappings you'd expect in a cheap mobile port. Small levels, thin gameplay, thin character development. Now actually only release that mobile game on PC. That's TL3.

In reality both the first game where also only OK. It was the fan mods and the devs working with the modders that made the game great. The devs though for those two were good devs.

The 3rd one was a train wreck, when they tried to make it into an MMO it just didn't work then they tried to just shoehorn that game into a single player game like it always should have been which just made it worse. The 3rd one was also a completely different dev team and studio that had nothing to do with the first two.

The one thing I can say about this mobile is at least they are going back to the originals and trying to actually make a torchlight game and not some half ass MMO instead.

Series really fell off after 2. What a shame. If nothing else, I hope the original creators continue to make money off the royalties or something
