If they would pull this game off in rather enjoyable state (with functioning economy, fluid node system providing fresh and somewhat randomized encounters/events, and of course with a solid combat) within the next 2 *doubt* to 4 years, with all those major showoff visuals on top of that - hot dayum. Not overly hyped until I see at least beta gameplay, though.
Many promises were made, and I just want a solid, good looking sandbox without having to cringe while passing by scripted daily village raid event or a boss spawning over a pre-set timer every thursday, without ever changing a single encounter mechanics. Instead, to be able to wander around minding my own business, in order to progress my home node, see and embrace the changes to the terrain, conquer the neighbours, or just to sink into Verra exploration/lifeskills/roleplay without the urge to look up for a guide do X proficiently. Just like the good ol' days in Tibia, when You had to read dialogues and ask around for hints if there wasn't a tutorial on the wiki yet, and the bossess spawned rarely and randomly on each server. This might sound nostalgic as heck, but made every memory last over decade(s) now.
Anyway - I'm glad to see them growing in manpower, especially after "scam" allegations here and there over the years.
That looks pretty but this is not essential to the gameplay.
But hey, who needs more essential core gameplay features like fully implemented character abilities and combat systems when you have pretty weather effects which can be used to promote and sell more of pretty cosmetic items through extremely abusive "limited time only, HURRY UP AND BUY BEFORE JUNE 8th!!!!" FOMO system, right?

That's the thing right... the game is now years behind schedule and they seem focused on the artsy stuff. I get it... that those little things can make a difference, but from what I have seen last it's the combat system that needs focused work. They really, REALLY need to get the hybrid tab/action stuff down flawlessly and then the node system and territory control stuff.
Whatever... Stephen owes me some money when this launches so I hope he hurry's up!

It's really strange because there aren't a ton of MMOs that I'm hoping pull through. This one has some cool features. I can't say if they'll deliver. Can't think of a single MMO that did deliver on all their promises, but I hope this turns out well.
Don't believe anything coming out of this studio until we see how the different pieces come together. At the moment, it seems they are playing with the players emotions and literally not doing anything new, but instead, taking ideas players like from other games and putting them into a single cash grab pipe dream.
They need to prove themselves with more than just show off clips and isolated pieces here and there.
Not to nitpick too much but rain drops not affecting ground water (puddles and such) looks weird especially in an Unreal 5 visual promo demo. It's like puddles have an energy field that keep rain drops away

Did you watch the same video that I did? Cause the weather system will affect your skills, the way you approach certain fights and the economy and that is called gameplay. Certain biomes with certain weather wont be able to produce certain goods if it's winter. If it's windy/winter your skills could shrink. Certain boss or npcs might be more powerfull because of the weather too.
In the UK it has been anything but sweltering, some what cold in fact. Which I believe is same for the rest of Europe apart from the Mediterranean countries which I am not sure could be described as sweltering. The tan is going to have to wait.
'Joining the dots' is an expression I use when large elements of the game are clearly there but game play systems are either missing or not connected together. That's where AoC and other games like SC seem to be with their Neverending Story of development.
This is very irrelevant to me. I don't really care about the graphics of a game unless it's something game-changing like the difference between TES Arena/Daggerfall vs TES Morrowind.
There are old graphics (like Arena, Daggerfall, Doom 1, 2, etc.) which are REALLY too old for me with simplistic 3D graphics and 2D sprites for enemies or friendly NPCs that completely turn me off the game and there is this modern focus on graphics that's also turning me off, because it feels like the graphics are taking center stage while everything else is irrelevant.
So far I haven't heard of a single mechanic or gameplay feature for Ashes of Creation that makes me even remotely excited about playing it. I also don't remember them having a devlog or something about gameplay mechanics. I remember there was an Alpha test that was streamed a couple of months ago and from what I saw, the game was pretty mediocre.
Even Project Gorgon with its niche scope, little funding and crappy placeholder graphics is more interesting to pay attention to.
Also being a subscription-only game with no B2P option is an instant turnoff for me. If there is some free trial around launch, I may give it a go, but I would never buy a subscription-only game. This is not 2002 and the game is not worth a subscription, just like Pantheon Online and Embers Adrift, the developers are in over their heads thinking they're creating some kind of masterpiece work of art that will be a historical milestone for humanity.
In Alpha One, the Siege battles were the standout gameplay. The Alpha 2 open world gameplay, combat and UI features is what I need to see. We also have no date yet on Alpha 2.
They have plenty of money and talent on board, so we dont have to worry about that.
When Alpha 2 hits I will have a much better feel for where things are heading.
this game looks like a scam, anyone with half a brain can see that, there's a lot of fake hype by some youtubers and streamers, but man, no way in hell is this marketable to a wide audience.

Did you guys see character creation hype? Something special? No. Anyway, again something that very few procentage of players care about because in mmorpg where you "max zoom" player face you cant see it that clear like you can in character creation + wear helmet or something you cant see anything so what is this hype about?
Now "players" or should i say "people, not players" are excited about weather effects. "Game" runs in ue5, how much % of players will have bad a$$ pc to run game at extreme settings which includes putting weather effects to max, where we all know it is going to drop fps hard. Rtx 5090 here i come!
They made so far atleast 10 roadmaps and they failed every single one.
Where is video about nodes, ships, economy, housing, full video about classes and skills etc etc?
This is like when star citizen said that people are getting rewards such as towel and gold fish.
And if you login to your account on their website and click inventory you gonna see "your" mount, chat emoji tier, title and character customization tier X added on Dec 31, 2018 which is funny because there is no person who can access it, so they probably added it to account because of their kickstarter bs "expected release date Dec 2018". Well... years and years later we are still "expecting" it.
New guys defending it.
Old guys attacking it.
...and ofc sh1tty streamers and youtubers who are milking this community are getting $$ out of it.
On kickstarter page you wont even find word "weather" but who cares right?
Lets go back in 2017 and kickstarter, promised affilate program which broke kickstarter rules and started "ponzi scheme" drama so that affilate program changed.
Another thing as i repeat is "expected delivery date Dec, 2018", yes it is expected so... it could be 2077? Nothing weird?
They broke kickstarter rule again:
One of our biggest expectations for creators is that they regularly update backers on their project’s progress and notify them of any delays or roadblocks that may impact their estimated delivery time. We expect creators to be open and honest with their backers during all stages of their project’s life cycle.
Did we recieved any new "expected delivery date" ? No.
But we got models, art, reminders and epic cosmetics so who cares right?
Weather that affects game play. Cool. I'm down for that.
Now let's move into Alpha 2 and quit poking the pooch.
Also, the idea that "content creators" and "influencers" should keep the unwashed community masses informed and engaged can just toss right the hell off.
Keep in mind, in neither video did they actually demonstrate weather impacting character skills and abilities, or player actions actually impact the seasonal changes.
In fact in the dev stream the avatar looked as if it was superimposed on top of the game world, and not actually inside of it.
No other player characters were visible as well, so overall both seemed to be more tech demos than anything nearly game ready, unless Alpha 2 is sometime towards the end of 2023 maybe.

Way back I had to have what a content creator was explained to me like I was an alien from another planet. What they do is so far from what it says on the tin, I asked questions like "But they are doing some mods or something then?" I couldn't get my head round it until I realised its PR jargon.

Well they need to keep the funding some how. You know games cost money to make? And software engineers are not cheap.
And they do have gameplay mechanics, they have shown these off in other videos.
This is the weather system, not the ability system.
P.s, I'm not even a die-fan/fanboi, don't have not bought it.

There is no evidence the ability or game systems have actually been tied to the weather system in any fashion.
Don't be fooled by the man behind the curtain, wait until he delivers the actual magic before giving accolades.
My guess is much of what was demonstrated is core functionality of the Unreal 5 engine and less about their own efforts.
I believe the merger of previous gameplay code and weather have a long way to go, same as the final release date, 2025 is the optimistic view I think.

It just added more time to the final delivery, perhaps even a year or two, but hey, better graphics are more important, amiright? Steven and team clearly seem to think so.

Pretty, yes. But then again, many Asian grinders have pretty graphics. Demonstrating how weather will impact game play instead of just showing animated cuts of weather would go a lot further to 'selling' this game.

While we're ignoring basic physics, why not point out that snow accumulates in a horrendously quick time, without snowflakes falling. Seasonal changes should not be a quick transitional cut scene between fall and winter. "But it wasn't snowing when I left home!"
