They are the top because there's a weird faction of people who actually support this. They will defend these practices as "lul they have to make money somehow!" - which is a weird way to say "I'm ready to fall to my knees for daddy Blizzard".
The only way to fight garbage like this is to point out these people's views as flaws and hope to change their mind so they don't spend money on it.
Most of the time, those people are too far gone. There's nothing to do except accept that there's too many people just utterly broken by this greed and will take it.
The unfortunate reality of mobile microtransaction systems like these is that it really only taks a handful of 'whales/krakens/whatever' spending hard to offset the cost. Someone chasing 5 star gems for example is worth more than maybe 10+ people all buying the premium battlepass track.
Feeling how the MTX has impacted rate of progression and stretches some elements of play into literal decade(s) for players, can't say it sits comfortably for me.
If you're just playing for the experience and then moving on, then you can probably avoid feeling the burn on the paywalls, otherwise you're going to eventually realize just how big a difference there is in progression between f2p and uncapped spending.

Just because few people who are in a bad financial situation or who just like to criticize everything as a coping mechanism for their depression (or both) disliked it doesn't mean everyone will dislike it. I downloaded it out of curiosity on my phone, played it for a couple of hours and it was... fine. I didn't notice any major bugs or crashes and the game wasn't constantly throwing "BUY THIS!!!!1111" notifications/messages at me. It also didn't ask me for any inappropriate permissions to my phone's hardware (despite some paranoid people on Reddit claiming "this game scans your face and sends to China" or some nonsense like that).
I didn't play the PC version but for a mobile game I didn't notice anything overly offensive.
Really, are ad-hominems about people the only counterargument anyone can ever evoke when anything about poor monetization comes up?
You have to be in a bad financial situation to point out how it can cost thousands on the low end, to be competitive in PvP or endgame gearing for high-tier rifts/bosses?
How can people be this disingenuous and think their argument doesn't come of as absolutely petty personal jabs, rather than anything remotely logical?
So... we talking actually predatory or are people being overly dramatic again?
Like, I only touched the game for an hour or so (like.... a wizard and necro at level 11 each), but... where's the predatory mtx?
I saw cosmetics and..... that was it. There was like, something about legendary crests or w/ever but literally that's the only other thing I saw. Then again, I don't exactly tend to go scrutinizing every single pixel looking for something to scream about, to put it bluntly .
So many mad people, hahahaha. While I'm having a blast not spending money or even touching gems. I'm giggling at all these mad psychopaths. Their phone probably isn't even nice enough to play it. AHHHH HAHAHAHAHAHA.
If you play the game at the speed the game makes you play it, you don't need money to play. Hahahahahahaha god I love the internet and less fortunate people. so fun.
Gamers just love abuse. Like the people that complain about loot boxes, and microtransactions, but still play the game. Like ok say I was still in like middle school. If I walk home this way, I run into a bully every time, and he kicks my ass. But if I go another way, I never run into that bully. Gamers would keep going down the bully street complaining about the ass whooping. It's just who we are as a community right now.

I've been having fun. There are no loot boxes, and the game hasn't really made me feel like I need to spend money. Maybe that will change at end-game, but looking at the store, I'm not seeing anything that makes me worry.
Did we not just have a thread where most of the monetization issues were brought up and discussed in detail, which happens to still be in recent discussions?
It's interesting there's people in this thread throwing questions, but avoid where all it's been laid out already.
Bit back to my point of the weirdly disingenuous behavior.
I'd honestly put this in the same category as Lost Ark for most people and by that I mean, its fine to play through if you like lore and then you can walk away from it. Compared to other mobile games its well done (I know that's not saying much), but there is fun to be had. Just if you want to make it a 'serious' game, you may be disappointed the deeper you go.
how it can cost thousands on the low end, to be competitive in PvP or endgame gearing for high-tier rifts/bosses?
So far I haven't spent a $0.01 on enjoying this game. Am I enjoying it "wrong" and MUST buy items that "cost thousands on the low end" in order to enjoy it in "correct way" (according to some interwebs financial justice warriors)?
You play for fun. Devs should make games for fun too huh!
Let's please keep in mind that the concept of Pay to Win is against the very idea of the concept of game at least in the fair game sense of it.
So yes, the devs should make money (or the game dies) but the question is how to make money while keeping the game fair?
For sure the PvE part of a game is not competitive IMO (but I am sure some people would disagree). Obviously, the question becomes more relevant with PvP and should not be dismissed so easily.
So wait... free mobile games aren't 100% FREE?!?! Someone call Superman, or... Saul maybe.
Come on. Free to play ALWAYS means speed up progression with money. It's okay if you don't like that. Don't play the game. Stop acting like a genocide has occurred.
Secondly, do you REALLY expect a 100% free game? You think video game developers are just out there making games out of the kindness of their hearts for nothing in return? Of course not! It's a business.
Play it, or don't, but stop acting like it's something out of the ordinary or some evil conspiracy out to end the world. Sheesh.

Yes, you are enjoying your game wrong. You must engage in every aspect of the cash shop. You must flaunt your epeen by cycling through all of your cosmetics every hour. You must spend as much money as it takes to top the leader board. And whatever you do, DO NOT ENJOY THE RIDE! Pass by everything on the way to the end so you can actually have fun.
This is the way.

However I grew up with MTX so for me they are just how things are. I don't care if a game has them. If I want to spend money I will.
