You do realize its a business first right ? This game is free how do you expect them to make money ?
ok 100k to max out your character that is daylight robbery. plenty of other games are free to play and only sell cosmetics and still make enough. Blizzard are just scum f***
So with 10mil downloads thats just over $2 per download. I know its just the first few weeks but that kind of sounds like a fail in my book. They could have gone the B2P route for $9.99 with a cosmetic shop. That would have been 100mil in revenue and could have avoided all this contraversy. Of course my example is just speculation but still.
Diablo 3 sold 3.5 million copies in the first 24 hours, earning them $120 million+
Not including Reaper of Souls, necro dlc, real money auction.
Fantastic news, especially considering DI will be dead after a month because of all the predatory monetization, they will learn hard from this mistake ^^
EDIT: Diablo Immortal has also been canceled in China, due to a Community Manager posting "why isn't (Winnie) the bear out of office yet?"

It makes perfect sense, the game is free so they had to turn it into an online casino. I do wonder about the rational that apologists for this use myself.
Apparently a significant number of players are not terribly upset with the monetization model even if previous fans of Diablo / Blizzard aren't so thrilled about it.

In the same amount of time Genshin Impact made $180 Million. I'd say Blizzard fucked up royally, a very simple pay per download, with paid cosmetics would've netted them more money overall. And no one would've bitched about it.

That's interesting. Do you have links to that data. Would love to read about it.
My only hope is that people that like this type of game using this type of monetization transition to mobile games leaving room for good, old fashion PC MMOs to come back.

IDK about 2 weeks but they did $60 mil the first week and $393 mil in the first two months. Compared to that DI is struggling.

All in all a passable ARPG with one or two good game play innovations (like the ability to extract the power affixes from legendary gear - not gems - and put that power into better legendaries you get as you level up) but not nearly as good as D2R, D3, POE, Grim Dawn or even Last Epoch which is still in early access.
Uninstalled last night.

The only caveat here is that GI released globally, while DI is still not out in China. GI brings in about 30% of its revenue from there.
Given the source article, if GI brings about 175m a month, it totals to about 122m (without China), or about 61m every two weeks, vs DI bringing in 24m every two weeks.
Although not record breaking, they are still at about 40% of the most profitable mobile game on the market. Although disappointing, the game is a huge commercial success.
If it's really true "the monetization system is raking it in", I hope - but don't expect - this will shut up the haters. Perhaps it'll make them realize their own feelings about the issue are not widely shared.
Again, no one is forcing you to play the game, and certainly your tax dollars aren't going to support it. Perhaps it's time for you to simply STFU?
Blizzard and many other companies don't give two hoots about the dad generation now (the kids who paid originally) They want to rip off the next generation that is used to mobile phones and micro transactions.

The bigger issue is people are paying it......My grocery store can sells eggs for $20 a dozen but I am not going to pay it....It is up to the consumers to say no.....Part of the problem with mobile games and microtransactions is it is easy and convenient....If these people had to go down to best buy and drop down that kind of money it would never happen.....Now all you need to do is click a button and voila you have spent a hundred bucks (or more)....
and this is also the reason why it is going to be harder and harder to ever get a quality MMO ever again when these companies can make a half ass game for one-tenth the cost and make millions in a couple weeks.....

Charge $9.99 a download and remove cash shop. With 5 million downloads they would have made $50 million by now.
50 probably in total, they made 23 millions in one week, in one month they probably will made 70 millions

Yeah it makes sense I guess. Not sure how it could be confusing though.

Are you sure about that?
