Xbox Graphics

Linuxx32Linuxx32 Member Posts: 10

Does the xbox 360 improve the graphics?  does it use the "next gen" graphics?

I have read a lot on this game and I dont want to see PS2 graphics on my xbox360.  Otherwise I might as well buy it for the computer.

Thanks all.

according to gamespot review, the graphics are still the exact same. no features of the xbox360 has been used.

It should be noted that it is "the exact same" as the PC graphics, not the PS2 graphics, so it is a step up from the PS2. And they have given you longer draw distances (which I grant you, is not a whole lot). While it's nicer than the PS2, there's not really anything more here than what you get with a PC.

Speaking as a PS2 player, looking at the Xbox 360 version is better...

PS2 version has some weak graphics power, and I never seen FFXI on a decent PC graphics...

So the prospect of playing all over again with good, and decent graphics appeals to me... when compared to the shoddy-crap I been used to....

    heh...

Chris you said you were from Remora? Is that a new server?

not to get off topic to much but how is the loot in game?  How is crafting..is it fun to craft?  How do you get crafting items?  Do you hunt for them or what?

    thanks

You have to work for your loot, yah. You won't get too much loot from experience parties, so you need to develop a way to make money; there are a number of choices. None really just hand money to you, but all can lucrative to one degree or another. You can farm mobs for their drops (exp isn't much good at this because the killing is too slow and the loot is split six ways). You can do the special instanced fights called BCNMs (Burning Circle Notorious Monsters)--make sure you save your beastman's seals, they're how you get in these! These are first available to you at level 20, but the BCNM20s mostly aren't that hot. Most people wait until level 30. You can fish (Moat Carp can be fished up easily and cheaply by any beginner, and bring good money) Fishing is time-consuming, though. If you can log on consistently for a few minutes two or three times a day, you can garden, and that can be very good and very easy money (that's how I make my dough, as a matter of fact). Generally, most crafting doesn't make you much money at the lower levels, you'll need to seriously level a craft to make real money at it, and that *costs* money.

I'm enjoying crafting myself. It's fairly complex (although not as complex as some systems I've heard of), with your chance of success/skillup/High Quality dependent on elemental relations to the day of the week and even what direction you're facing in.

The basis of all crafting are the elemental crystals; every item synth requires the proper crystal to catalyze it. These are gotten mainly by hunting for them. You get a special buff from your nation's guard NPCs (with Bastok they're called "Iron Musketeers" and have an "I.M." after their names. With Windurst, they're called "War Wizards" and have a "W.W.". With San d'Oria, they're "Temple Knights" in the city itself and "Royal Knights" in the field and have a "T.K." or an "R.K." after their names, respectively) which is called *Signet*. While you have Signet on you, you have a chance to get crystal drops from every kill that earns you exp (you also get Conquest Points, and your nation gets Region Points, but Conquest is a subject for another day). Newbies get a lot of crystals killing low-level monsters right outside the starter cities, but they generally don't have enough money to start crafting yet, so there's always a flow of crystals for sale on the AH.

Other sources of crystals are by killing elementals (which drop "clusters" of their element; a cluster can be turned into a full stack of twelve crystals.), or by gardening (part of my gardening is to get fire crystals, in fact). Finally, when your crafting skill with a given guild reaches a certain level, you can start turning in items to that guild for "Guild Points". One of the things GPs can be exchanged for is HQ (High Quality) crystals. HQ crystals are far too costly to use for general crafting, but using one (if the synth is successful) results in a finished item with your name signed on it (your name appears in the item description box when someobody looks at it). And those are the only ways I'm aware of that you can get crystals on a regular basis.

Aside from the crystal to power a synth, you need the materials that actually make the item. These come from just about every source. Some are loot drops from mobs. Some are collected from harvesting in the wild, excavation, logging, and mining, or by having a chocobo dig stuff up. If the item is a fish (Cooking has lots of fish dishes, and alchemy uses fish for some of its recipes) you can fish for it Some can be gardened for. Some can be bought from NPCs. Sometimes an item can be gotten in only one of these ways, sometimes there are multiple possible sources. Very, very few crafting materials are Ex (not tradable to another player), and those materials are generally for specific unusal items, so very often you'll find yourself buying your crafting materials at the Auction House rather than going to the source and getting them yourself (which depending on your situation and level, might not be possible for you).

Thats because Square doesn't realy give a damn about Xbox360, but who realy does? It's just to broaden the availability of the game. Also, it still has to go through Xbox live right? That means you still have to pay that Xbox live annual fee, so you can play the FF monthly fee, roglmao.

Actually you only need Xbox Live Silver which is free, so you only have to pay the FF monthly fee to play it on the 360. I bought a copy for the 360 just for the hell of having it, and it really isnt anything special compared to the computer. Granted I haven't hooked it up to the HDTV or surround sound yet, but without those extras you're really not going to get anything out of the Xbox version that you couldnt get from the computer version. That, and I couldn't tell if the Xbox version comes with Tetra master...but I do know I didnt have a content ID key for it in my manual...

Tetra Master is a card game that was first introduced in FF8, though this version is taken out of FF9. It's pretty fun as a minigame to play when you don't have the time for FFXI or when the game is down.

And yes, the Xbox version includes all the expansion packs.

Hehe, I'm sure you will. Community is one of the strongpoints of the game =) If you happen to get tossed onto the Fairy server (or if you want a worldpass for it, you can always ask me) I'll be happy to switch over to one of my lower-level jobs and show you the ropes.
