but it's clunky ,slow .ugly ,the premise is awesome but playabilty horrid,O i know i'll get people telling me graphics don't matter, but my issue is with the slow zombie like combat, tedious to the point of a postal job crafting system add set in a world of 1998 graphics,I own the game so will probaly play in hopes that what i saw so far was alpha code cause if it was not this will be another great idea that will last very short time

You could ask for help on the private test forums where issues like this are supposed to be raised. Instead you come here and violate the testing agreement.
If you do post on the testing forums, please make sure you also send in an error report in the game. Make sure all your drivers are up to date, all windows critical updates are installed, and also remember that the ammount of logging client side will cause slowdown in extended play.
Others seem to enjoy combat quite well. And it's unfortunate your first post on MMORPG.com had to be a leak.

Have you ever played World War II online - I'd be interested to know what you think of that game as well, as my intial thoughts after seeing the screenshots of Roma Victor were that the graphics are similar to that of WWII online, and the gameplay there definitely makes up for the lack of graphical splendour.

Nothing like a little corporate espianage to make the day a bit more interesting, eh!
This is one slave looking forward to gaining their freedom when the game comes out.

ww2ol is actually a good mark... since roma victor is going for realism... your not gonna have bf2/cs/quake jumping and running around at 10x human speed kind of combat.
its the most realistic combat i've ever see, on par with mount and blade but not the exact same system. and realistic means realistic, not that you can move like an elf or wolfman but you can click buttons to slash and to block.

I'm also a pre-order beta player and sorry but I must agree with the original poster.
I would add one more critique....the controls are about the worst I have ever seen in any MMO. They just arent intuitive at all. In 99% of MMO's, you hit the "I" key (or control I) and the inventory opens. In 99% of MMO's, you can control movement with the arrow keys or remap to do it. Same issue with chatting with NPC's. its always just simply clicking on them. However, with RV I had to constantly ask, write stuff down, hit random keys, etc to do simple tasks. I almost deleted the game right there after it took me an hr to figure out basic stuff.
Gamers are a fickle bunch, especially after disasters like the changes made to Star Wars Galaxies, the outrageous lies from Mourning, and the incomplete Dark and Light game. In the past developers have repeatedly made promise after promise and then failed to deliver.
So when I read that Roma Victor will have improved graphics and seem less clunky, Im less than optimistic based on the past. I'm told to ignore the screenshots as they arent a representation of what the game will look like at launch.
I think a much smarter approach would be to implement the better graphics now and redo those awful screenshots because they surely are losing you potential customers.
I like the communication from the developers. I love the complex crafting system. But in the end, I honestly cant bring myself to even beta test the game anymore. Its just too dang ugly and the controls arent very intuitive.
I was interested in PvP until I heard you get crucified when griefing .
No seriously, that ruins the fun .
I may try it out still since these people are mostly complaining about the graphics except one that talked about controls.

That would probably pass as a plausible reason anywhere BUT a forum devoted to MMORPG's.
Edit: board formatting crap.
Key mapping will come. Making keys mappable in a test can cause problems when people complain about a key not working, only to realize they changed it to something they didnt remember only after making the devs chase a ghost bug. That's why the options button is greyed out...this way we know everyone is running on the same settings. This should change at or shortly after release.
And you dont get crucified just for PvP. There are many people in the test that have killed many other people and are in no danger of being nailed up. For some reason griefing has now become interchangable with PvP when they're actually two completely different things.

I am interested though to see what Kanoth can tell us about the fact that commercial testers think the Status of the World does not match what they have seen ingame while testing. Not everything mentioned by the Status of the World (details in the RV WebSite) is what the testers have seen, and I am truely suprised and disappointed about this.
Kanoth can you please explain to us what the Status of the World is based on if not what the commercial testers are experiencing ingame?
One last thing...I don't tend to be a person interested in graphics, I myself love WWII Online, its my favourite game probably, graphics aren't great, but its got great detail in its gameworld.
Roma Victor on the other hand doesn't have that gameworld detail that adds realism and convinces the player of being situated in a real world. I am interested to know why isn't there grass, or simple gameworld details to convince the player of the terrain being more realistic. A basic flat texture of grassy land does not satisfy me at all. I like the idea of fields, and player made items, but I see RV having land being seen as barren and boring. I don't understand how we can appreciate a game without a detailed gameworld (graphically). Where is the grass...the bushes.... the forests do look cool, but still I saw the ground with a flat ground texture. There are some things that better graphics cant provide, but better detail would. I hope you will get some level designers to improve the details of the lands in the future after release.
Have to put something up!
I said it before anyway, thats not what bothers me about the game Virtus. Anyway I said in the paragraphs below that its the graphic detail which annoys me more...I play WWII Online, graphics have never bothered me really. But Roma Victor lacks graphic detail, in other words, vegetation, and other details which make a gameworld, atleast seem a bit more real. I hate the fact that we have to imagine textures of land as natural vegetation.
Also, that was leaked from commercial testers was the character creation system, being random numbers....I just hope that by release there will be something worth being called a character creation system. Not just select a number for hair style...select a number for size, select a number for face....and you don't even know what you've chosen. It had better change by release...thats all I know, and doubt.

Virtus, you admitted in another thread you haven't played any MMORPG's, so let me give you advice from someone who has played about 15 of them in the last 10 years: Take what devs say with a grain of salt, even ones as well-meaning as RV's. Most veteran gamers have heard it all when it comes to claims made by game developers.
Low graphical quality WILL turn some people off and it's best you brace yourself that some folk will can this game no matter what.
It's hard to get fanboi-ish over something that hasn't been released yet.
Agreed! I myself have been following this game till recently when I learnt stuff from the testers about them being worried, since part of the game they were testing isn't meeting the Status of the World. Now for them to say that I believe is just, because the status of the world is meant to reflect on whats ingame. Now possibly (and this would piss me off) the status of the world is based on an alpha version of the game.
Other then that the screenshots show a lack of quality in the game. I don't see enough to convince me that this game is a virtual world. I need to see more details (not better graphics) but I don't like how plain the game world is.
I've also heard rumours about the game being at the moment incapable of handling a 100 players online at a given time.....for the game's sake to live on....I hope these rumours aren't true!
Have to put something up!
Do you understand the meaning of Rumour? Yeah I hope to god its bull! If they were true, this game wouldn't survive retail. But I still think some of the leaked information, like Status of the World could be true. I just hope RB have some suprises up their sleeves.
Edit: I mean suprises as in miraculous patches/updates for the game.
