Crypto/NFT is a financial investment, do we allow minors to do financial investments?
Sounds like a terrible idea.
The problem is... people think of nfts and crypto as financial investments. They are not.
People don't just think of them that way, they use them that way. Making them exactly financial investments regardless of whatever semantic argument you'd like to make in opposition.
It doesn't matter what the original intent was or whatever pie in the sky ideas people have about the potential of crytpo and NFTs in any space. All that matters is how they're being used right now, which is as speculative financial investments in 95% of cases.
Precisely. How the technology can or should be used does not change how the technology is being used.
Social media could be used solely to connect disparate loved ones and friends. Could be. Maybe should be. But it's most decidedly not being used exclusively that way in practice, resulting in the public and lawmakers viewing its worth in the context of how it is being used, rather than how it could or should be used.
Hmm, same discussion around the use of nuclear technology.
Which is why nuclear technology, generally, is not freely provided to the general public, and use of nuclear energy is highly regulated.
In regard to OP: Insisting kids will use what has largely been bought and sold as a poorly conceived speculative risk asset is not only silly, but morally questionable, especially when it's done with an obviously biased interest towards the statement being true.
Such sentiments only serve to alienate the general public further from crypto and NFTs.
Why was Champie banned, he was not being that bad; this is so annoying, we just get BC back and we lose someone else?
I am sure your sentiment is appreciated, but ChumpieChimpieChampie got what he deserved, I suppose. Word on the street is that he used the Report/Flag system to make a single comment to the mod staff about clarifying their policy on what I think champ would have called "scam spamming" on this site. Some could argue that they clarified by banning the person who dares to make such a suggestion. Others may argue that using the flag/report link was not the right way to do it. Someone like me might now agree that it is bad form to use the flag/report link to make such comments to the staff.

No worries, I almost did that same thing. I received a warning and my post deleted for making a 'your mom' joke, but I guess the mod thought I was being toxic,
when in fact I was joking...might have helped if I had used a :P emoji. I thought about reporting a topic just to be able to reply and correct the mod on his mis-characterization of my dry humor....good thing I didn't.

Earlier on this thread Champie made posts which at least I thought are likely ban-worthy if someone reports him. Now those posts are gone and Champie is banned.
I think there's a chance Champie isn't completely honest on why he was banned.

Except that it's really not an investment, just like buying lottery tickets or gambling in a casino isn't an investment. Of course, those are things that we don't allow minors to do, either.

A lot of people do consider them investments. But that isn't what they are, and it shows the misunderstanding of the technology....
If you invest it then it's an investment.
It may be made for some other purpose and be unsuitable for investing in - for example it may be a tulip - but if you invest in it then its an investment.
1634 - 1637 Dutch Tulip Market Bubble. Interesting bit of financial history.
If I recall, tulips didn't use blockchain, and pretty much weren't naturally investment mediums, either. That didn't stop people from putting insane amounts of money into that market. which most of those people eventually lost.
Once this crypto madness subsides, people will stop citing the Dutch tulip bubble so much because the crypto bubble is a far bigger one.
That's not to say that crypto is going to disappear entirely. Tulips didn't, either. But at some point, it will have a value in line with what you can actually use it for.

Its a beautiful way to scam people and get starter money out of those that don't know the basics of finances or are just uneducated, I say its fine to let it exist let them eat cake only to find out its dung, hey learning the hard way is the best way to learn look at me I am a living breathing example, I've got a long history of mistakes and I'm only 25 lmao
A fool and his money are soon parted. Understanding this, there are plenty of people racing to be the first to part fools from their money before someone else does so.

To be fair; The radium was an issue for manufacturing, giving the workers cancer rather than the consumer (unless you were licking the watch hands or something).
Mercury is kind of a yeah bad, but rolling about in your hands every so often is different from ingesting it or doing some of the other home remedy nonsense that got attention drawn to it.
And seat belts is just a gamble. Not a great gamble, but not a guarantee of problems either. If everyone lost at gambling then it wouldn't be such an issue drawing attention to the, well... issues of gambling.
Mostly, it just leads to "people don't collectively learn through foresight". When majority response is driven by reaction to consequences, something has to blow up first before any real heavy collective considerations are made.
We've seen the crypto market crash a few times, but without the crypto bubble popping, people will just keep riding it.

In games there are measures against 'gamble boxes' in some countries they are already illegal because they do seem to focus more on younger players, NFT's and Crypto are much the same in that they are a gamble in a highly volatile market. Steam already banned such things afaik, i believe they were entirely correct in doing so, i hope they do not ever relent in this. Minors seem to be an increasingly targeted demographic by greedy and immoral game publishers/developers, it should be illegal for NFT's and Crypto to be sold to under 18's, hell i would advocate for it being over 21's only. NFT's and Crypto are gambling, and its long past time we stopped pretending it isn't.

A flag went up in my head as the idea of reporting a thread for such a purpose was mentioned. This is why I always say "we don't really know what happened". I have to say they did the right thing here; having done this job on a forum myself, flagging something is regarded as a red alert, you drop what you are doing to sort it out.

My guess is he got chumped by MMORPG?
