Chaos Gate: Demonhunters

Hi folks,

So, I picked up Chaos Gates in the summer sale and have been having a blast. It is a typical warhammer game, which means really bad UIs and poorly explained systems, but once you are playing through a level then things are good. The actual minute to minute gameplay is just as good as XCOM.

Are any of you playing this game? How are you getting on?

I'm mainly posting for some advice. For those who havent played, there are some questionable design decisions in the game (as expected, it wouldn't be a warhammer game without!). One of those questionable decisions is that you cannot max out your squad through regular gameplay, you can only unlock about a third of your skills and passives. Same with respecs, very hard to respec.

There is a very clunky way around this: commune with the dead.

If one of your grey knights dies, you can commune with the dead to either respec, or add a new skill to another character. The problem I have is that none of my grey knights has ever died! It seems impossible to get my knights to die. I've been deliberately bringing along sacrificial lambs, charging them in first to die. And they kind of do.....they get critically injured. After that, the enemy leaves them alone until they "rez" three turns later, where they get another critical wound and the cycle repeats.

So, my question to those who are playing: do u have a good way to farm dead knights? Can I send an entire squad of sacrifices to a mission and deliberately lose to get 4 corpses? If I deliberately fail a mission, can I re-do it with my normal squad?

I love XCOM been thinking of picking this up.

Lol I loved your idea of killing them and then it not working out. I cannot kill my squad ever I always get too attached. In Darkest Dungeon I used to get upset when I had to retire some of my units. I always try my damndest not to let anyone die. I used to just redo the mission in XCOM when things went bad as it often does you know the random gods hate me.

I'll pick it up as soon as it drops denuvo.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

I don't think that will happen. It's published by Frontier after all and Frontier have a massive Denuvo fetish, it's almost disturbing to watch.

I was following the game on Steam, then they announced the publishing deal with Frontier, followed promptly by the addition of Denuvo in the game; I bitched about Denuvo in one post on their Steam forum, so they banned me.

Really, if you're hoping for them to drop Denuvo, you're in for a loooong wait. Frontier are Denuvo's shills, apparently...

I hate squad members dying too, I definitely save-scummed XCOM when playing it so I could just reload if someone died. This feeling is definitely enhanced by extensive customisation!

XCOM 2 was really great for that - I had so many voice packs and other mods so I could customise my squad. No way was I gonna let Arnold Swarzenegger die! Someone just shot my Lara Croft in the head? No thanks!

    But Chaos Gate.....

Each character has something like 36 skills / passives, but u only get 18 points to unlock them. I wouldn't normally care.....making choices about your build is good......except there is an achievement for maxing out a knight! Which means it's possible to max them out! So, of course, I wanna max everyone out now!

I just need dead knights, and the rest of the internet hasn't let me know how to get lots of them
