Now the addicts who keep dropping money in the slot machine, waiting for that "Big HoF", can convince themselves to dump even more money into the slot machine.
What a joke.
Thing is, there's a couple streamers I check out from time to time whom I *know* are already rubbing their hands, believing they're totally gonna cash-in on this.
One of them constantly dumps money into EU, hundreds at a time, waiting for the HoF worth 10s of thousands. They have this weird, smug confidence that it's gonna happen, 'cause they've "got the algorithms 100% figured out". If they just keep depositing money and grinding away at it... They've been 'grinding away at it' for years.
They're MA's dream client... deluded and stupid, with a lot of money to waste.
Imho it's always more of a wonder when a game manages to be successful by simulating something that is neither morally objectionable nor dangerous.
Entropia is good at teaching economy strategy, it has the casino aspect, but its economy aspect is strong.
I played Entropia a long time ago, and when I got to MMOs like GW2, Albion and others, our guild had a massive control on the auction economy, we ruled several stocks and prices
Game teaches you how to become rich! It's unforgiving, only the strongest big brain survive.
It's always a wonder when a game can be successful by simulating the worst parts of an economy.
Consider the fact that most games are successful by simulating killing.

At least with combat it's either a) PvE where you are not engaging in tampering with another player's enjoyment of a game or b) PvP where there is a tacit agreement on competitive play.
There's obviously exception to this, or else you wouldn't have any conversations about griefers, but the baseline is there.
Economy, on the other hand, is not something where such tacit agreements are generally even thought of. Those that go out of their way to manipulate market forces and assert dominance in things, almost exclusively exist and act at the detriment to the system and other players, for their own gain.

I actually like the idea of the game and tried it a while ago. It's one of those games though that is long in the tooth and needs an overhaul ala FFXIV ARR

Well they are getting that Unreal Engine 5 upgrade. That'll TOTALLY make it a different game.... right?
I agree with you about the idea of the game. I love it, too. It's what has kept me following it, and checking it out myself a few times - trying to find *some* way to play it as a regular game - not a nickel-and-diming slot machine simulator.
I tried to deposit a standard subscription amount, $15 a month, and be reasonably economical, without obsessing over it. It isn't possible.
The game is literally designed so it's impossible to casually enjoy anything it offers without fretting over how much money you're eating through with every shot fired.
I love the setting. I love that it's an actual "universe" with real-time interplanetary travel. There's a LOT to EU.. Sadly it's all undermined by the fact that almost literally everything you do costs money, and adds up quicker than you realize. This results in a lot of it being actively avoided and unrecommended by vet players, because it's "not eco".
I was interested to see what would happen with the move to Unreal Engine 5. But this news has me deciding to just forget about it instead.
I just picked up Guild Wars 1 again... It's so refreshing to just pick up and play without the game trying to empty my wallet every 5 minutes.

Hey, just like real life....
Hence it is a real life economy simulator, you get gud at game you get gud at rl
