The quotation marks around "controversy" are definitely fitting. There are clearly a great number of people that don't find it so or simply don't care.
But if we all agreed, what the hell would we talk, or argue, about then?
I say DOWN WITH ALL OPINIONS.....except mine of course, no opinions here, just good ole facts....
My reference to contrary opinion isn't contrary to opinion. It's part of that all not agreeing thing that leads to discussion and debate.
Just looking at the last few articles and the systems being changed/update4d, it's none of the things that affect the core game loop as the part that's overly monetized. It's just satellite features or a couple extra things to give them more money for or add an extra currency grind to.
Which means the same problems continue to exist at the heart of the game.
Problem ends up being that it just becomes the cycle of "But what about this?" every single time the subject pops up. While I would say it is important to rail on Blizzard for poor behavior, we also get the struggle of white knights that "don't care" what the company is doing or how busted the game and it's monetization is.
They'll continue to talk about how they can play the campaign for free, and continue to either intentionally or obliviously miss the point.
And unfortunately it's just tiring to address. If there's no change being shown then it does eventually turn to the point that there's just no service in even giving it the light of day after a time.
Just consider, Falz is the only comment that didn't have a directly negative or sarcastic view. If no one else was to comment it'd be down to a single person or two patting each other on the back for either playing a tiny bit of a game and going "yeah that little bit was alright", or "boy wasting thousands of dollars sure was fun".
As much as we should continue to hold Blizz accountable, we also have to be mindful to not pad out the hype.
EDIT: It's a bit of the same problem with the dragonflight expansion. People are getting so excited about individual systems, they aren't paying that much heed to who and what Blizz still is as a company, nor the cyclical way the last few launches have been around such content. Even Shadowlands was positively received at first before it devolved into a dumpster fire.
But it's easier to ride the hype train than it is to be aware.
