Who didn't know that was going to happen? These types of games have always fostered a community of absolute wanks.

You do have to wonder, have the devs ever played a game like this before? The posters here and on any gaming forum are never surprised by players behaviour but devs are, that's real ivory tower detachment for you. To be fair pvp players are mostly fine, but you get loads of bad apples.

With the dozens of players the game has, sometimes you have to crack down.

This kind of abuse has been rampant in their games for years...only when it is directed at their employees do they take action. Yeah, not the kind of company I would trust. They are just desperate for some publicity to get their dying game on the radar again.

If threats like these were actually made then the proper authorities should be contacted and folks making these threats should be arrested.

I give Heinrich and the rest of the company loads of crap because of their continued over-promising and under-delivering, but there is no place for threatening the family members of staff, nor staff themselves. That's simply not acceptable in any way, shape or form.

Having done a bit more research, it is interesting that this "ban wave" consisted of 63 accounts in total.

11 accounts were banned for exploiting.
39 accounts we banned for hacking.
8 accounts for duping. We have removed duped items/gold and deleted houses from the game.
5 accounts for extreme targeted harassment. Two of the bans were permanent and 3 were temp bans.
    2 accounts were reoffenders.

So it looks like 2 total accounts were banned for harassment and another 3 were suspended. OK.. jerks should be removed... but maybe they should be talking about the far more numerous accounts that were banned for hacking, exploiting and duping?

Not sure perma-banning 2 people is worthy of press-releases.

The news release was more for announcing the new community standards I think, though it did lead with the body counts first.

Funny thought I just had, gamers go up in arms about doxing attempts and what not, but then many folks were up in arms when state and federal governments put in new laws preventing people from protesting in front of a judge or government official's home.

Weird double standard as I think both are unacceptable behaviors, we should not let fear and intimidation be part of any process where people are just trying to do the job they are being paid to do.

For some reason, a sizeable portion of the players drawn to games like this are IRL a-holes whose sole purpose for playing the game is the griefing and harassment of other players. It isn't the majority, as I've played this game and have run into mostly fine players. But there is an obvious population of creeps.

I honestly think this is a move in the right direction. Competition doesn't mean anarchy. For whatever reason, this obnoxious population of online anarchists shows up in ANY game with PvP in it.

Not sure banning 63 accounts is news-worthy.  That wouldn't even amount to 10% of the SWG Legends server daily pop lol...  Either they have a virtually non-existent community, they've done a REALLY good job of removing dupes and glitches before release (not the case from what I've gathered), or they did a really small bit of work here.

I was a bit alarmed at how they focused on protecting their staff, without mention of protecting customers from gamer-on-gamer misbehavior.  It's wrong, no matter if the target is a staff member or just a passer-by.

    63 accounts.

    And currently 844 concurrent players.

Fortunately, accounts are not concurrent players.

Banning is where people who want to play act bad and get forcefully removed.

So all they need to do is figure out how to reverse ban people and take people who don't want to play that act good and force them to play.

So if they can do that one thing, they're golden.

This. These devs are so bent on not wanting to take criticism of their game that they treat their consumers like air for not being satisfied with a box price + subscription purchase. Even after X hours of trying to keep life from leaving the released game, it should be no surprise if the people that want to play the game become bad actors out of boredem eventually. The way they have it setup is breeding grounds for negative energy + full loot = max tier salt. They need to adapt their concept & model more so than push articles like this one.

It could be a large percentage considering how small their player base is so in a sense it is noteworthy.

Subs are not being charged and the game goes in sale periodically. Stop projecting your own negative opinions of the game onto the devs for no reason. They acknowledged the major problems with the game and are looking to support future growth of which they still have opportunity if they pull the game together

I kinda admire what those guys have TRIED to do with this game, but their previous version should have told them a lesson... that it just doesn't work. They just do exactly the same again, and a change of graphic engine doesn't fix a broken game.

Who ever made this article is ignorant and out of touch with what is going on.

SV bans people on hearsay. They lied about harassment.

You have one of the rudest and most condescending player CMs I ever seen, Robmo routinely trashes players and slanders the community as racist and homophobic because he lost arguments about what is or isn't a exploit. The players in return make fun of him.
One of the most unprofessional people Ive ever seen anywhere. If he had a real job he would have been fired.

Some players posted his public and by the same name player reddit account to make fun of him playing geshin impact and being a weeb. All fair because he talks shit to the players as well. The players who did this got a permanent steam ban on their record as SV lied that they were doxxing SV devs. Completely untrue and continued slander

They have a guilty until proven innocent mentality to where they will ban players based on hearsay in unofficial discords then you have to prove you did not do something or are not the player they wanted banned.

The even banned a player because another person in a unofficial discord named himself the same as that player, then said that they were a notorious mo1 hacker who stole money from SV.
That player got banned with a steam ban on his record and had to go prove to SV that he was not the banned player.

Also they dont ban people for hacking only their accounts. You have dupers like smokey that only got one of their accounts banned but were allowed to play on the five other accounts.
If you hack your account will get banned by you as a person can still play and they are fine with that. If you call out that player for being a hacker then you will get censored and banned from the discord.

They will also ban players for non exploits like using the games resurrection spells to resurrect your self in a boss room to keep fighting the boss. No bugs being used the lead GMs said many times its ok, you could do it for months in front of GMs that you called to come ban a speed hacker trying to kill the same boss as the resurrecting boss solo player.
But then the CEO sees it on stream says its not intended and retroactively bans players.
The CM talks out his ass and claims it is a exploit but lost that argument and left the unofficial discord.

Soloing bosses with out the use of exploits is bannable even though the LGM said it was perfectly ok. But abusing a bug that the private server testers knew and let into the game to have multiple drops for every player involved in a spirit(mob) is not exploiting. The CM said it was a bug and was not intended but then said it was not exploiting. Ok if they arent going to ban for that but goes against that zero tolerance policy and they couldn't call a real exploit a exploit but were calling non exploits exploits.

Now there is a exploit where you can fast cast spells. The most game breaking bug that makes people not even want to log into the game because people can quick cast close range high damage spells at far range for a fraction of the cast time. Seems like a major game breaking exploit that affects other players. But they don't ban for this. They dont ban people intentionally using a bug to kill other players and take their loot and time. But they will ban you for alt f4ing in game. If you crash in game you have more of a chance to be banned then a person machine gunning you down with a exploit. More likely to get banned for making fun of a CM in a unofficial discord then being a hacker or exploiter.

Oh why is there a unofficial discord? Because SV bans a shit load of people. If you say something critical about the game now its ban. You joke around a bit, ban. You talk about moderation being bad, ban. The CM is shit talking you and arguing with you and you argue back, ban. Are you in a guild that the player mods hate, They will go though your history and warn you 5 times in a row for things that you said months ago when the rules are different.

These devs just don't want criticism and are as out of touch as there author of this article, that's all there is to the "harassment"
