    Oh.

So. We get to comment on THIS article, but, not the one about the art director... from the other day?

Not that I had anything to contribute.

    But I noticed.

Also noticed here, but I am putting that aside as although the graphics are probably not up to the standard I expect from a MMO; they are doing roleplaying, so that has to get a thumbs up.

This looks right up my alley. Been playing A Tale in the Desert, and found it a nice break from other types of MMOs. I'm not a role-player, but I'm not opposed to them doing their thing while I quietly go about my business.

The fish may be entertained, but will the players?

Dancing for the fish falls under the *very* broad auspices of role-playing, I guess.  Exactly how does fish dancing relate to any African tribal culture?  None of which I'm aware.

Dancing for fish to receive rewards... isn't even close to the strangest thing I've done in a MMORPG over the years. Will be interesting how the mechanics work.

I'm still trying to figure out how this is going to work:

"where all the interesting NPCs are... actual other players!"

    (from their website)

Rotating basis and upon log in you get the pop up "Hi (insert name here) it's your turn to be the Gardener NPC"?

I can see down the road 'oh, here comes Jim, I don't like that guy', "Sorry, nope, no quests for you today"

Totally missed it, thanks for the heads up. Appears most news sites are intentionally ignoring the story, at least they shared it here.

Can I play as a straight white male or is it ok for me to roleplay as a native African when in RL I am a white male etc?

I'm glad some one else peeled that rabbit hole open...

I wondered the same thing. But. Since men can now get pregnant and a woman can't be defined, what harm is ethnic roleplay completely unrooted in reality?

Is there evidence dancing topless can catch fish or did that just seem a way to make it more 'tribal'? I feel racist just picturing that heh. Africans had brilliant fishing nets. They dangerously lacked agricultue. Personally, I'll stick to simulating 'fun history' that includes shoes, agriculture, iron work, and fishing rods. Like vikings.

Truly... I wish them the best of luck in their vision. Just confusing as hell what the vision is supposed to be. A reflection on history, or a cliche?

I wish them success (hey, at least it is different) but personally I'd avoid any race-based title.
It is a tricky area, I really think this title which gaming sties keep lauding is going to get a huge backlash on social media when it launches. But then that's social media for you, we keep letting it decided for us what is right and wrong, work it out for yourself.

Instead of buttons to up or down vote posts in social media I think they should be "Offended" and "Not Offended."

Yee-haw I bet you were just itchin to discuss that and someone else brought it up for you.

Anything to actually add to the conversation, or will you further confuse painting me as some bumpkin as a response?

My viewpoint won't be diminished by you.

    It's a legitimate criticism.

Dancing naked for fish, while amusing, is hardly representative of anything.

More likely to be eaten by a croc, or gored by a hippo doing that at a riverbank... You'd have to be insane to do that.

If it's not representative of Africa, then it's just a monochromatic RPG.

Shouting 'racist' to blanket all criticism is a bad sign when it's still just alpha.

Assuming I'm white, and southern, and that all white southerners are illiterate, and that fact alone drives my viewpoint... is a bad first counterargument, friend.

This is the first line on their website:

"Have you ever wondered what real roleplaying looks in an MMO?"

Why yes, back in 1998 I did wonder nut now I know that it doesn't include dancing for fish.

Hey don't tell a GM that, or he will put that in your next scenario, many a time a player has said "don't tell him that or he will do it"!

...I just have to sit this one out because as a middle-aged white guy my only role in this adventure would be "punching bag".  There would literally be no way for me to play that game without it being cast as racist.  (cultural appropriation, digital blackface, etc)
Are you familiar with Thomas Sowell?

I've read that his Black critics are likely to argue: "Sowell is not talking to Black people, he is talking to white people about Black people"

Similarly, It seems to me that Wagadu Chronicles is a game made for white people. Make your own judgement about what that means.
