In a recent interview with World of Warcraft's Ion Hazzikostas, the developer states that cross-factions guilds are something that Blizzard wants to do, and they could be coming rather soon.

I don't know what to say about the next x-pac, but I have a feeling that it will be in-line with BfA and Shadowlands! Hope I'm wrong ..

Blizzard Boss: Making gamers happy is not my concern, making money.. yes!

Edit: ‘World of Whatevercraft’ could also work. Sounds less exciting though.

'But there are many. You can play them entirely solo, and even offline. Also, you are wrong by default.'
Ikcin in response to yours sincerely debating whether or not single-player offline MMOs exist...
'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.
It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.
It is just huge resource waste....'

Also him: Coming soon! Cross faction guilds!
Next they will make elixir of tongues a permanent buff.
Granted I don't care if they get rid off these faction barriers, it's rather pointless since we have NPCs talking to eachother and supposed enemy lore characters being friends... I just laugh at all the backpeddling they do ALL the time. It was at the beginning. But ever since... I would say Burning Crusade, the whole idea has eroded rather quickly. A war with multiple factions doesn't work, even irl-historically two enemies have always teamed up to eliminate a third (Soviets joined the Allied Forces to defeat the Nazis for example).
holy crap i didnt even know this, i never play retail. just another reason not to i guess.
This may have been dressed up with some story, but we know the story team is just there to write an explanation of the latest WoW updates, they do not drive the game.

When WOW launched PVP servers were quite popular, still true when I returned for Cata, so it's surprising to see they fell off so much that they were entirely removed from the game as an option.
These times are a changing....

My main server was Emerald Dream which was an RP PvP server. Had a lot of fun there when both RP and open world PvP were common. Got my Explorer achievement there which meant visiting all areas of the game including horde cities... did it on my Paladin with no stealth lol.
There was an Alliance guild in that server who RP'd beng protectors of Menethil Harbor and the Wetlands in general walking their horses in small groups and kicking the Horde's ass whenever they ventured there.
Different times, different players.
