Played since beta, and still play off and on to this day. Love those public even chains that start in one area and go across zones to complete. Leveled my first character that way, went up the last three levels to hit max and was having so much fun I didn't even notice when I hit max.

Other games should learn from this. Make leveling easy and fast. GW2 and SWTOR does this and I still play these games. I just have lots of alts because leveling is so enjoyable as opposed to never reaching max level in some games because the leveling is just too grindy.

Specialization power-creep is a big problem in the game at the moment. There is no vertical progression gear-wise, but there certainly is specialization-wise.

The Steam release showed that whilst the community seems very helpful towards new players on the whole, it's often actually counter productive. Classic example is the 'commander tagged' player that proclaims " Join me new players for events, I'll help you" And then proceeds to fly around on their mounts as fast as possible between events, and basically one-shot everything in a beginner zone. It's impossible for a) new players to keep up with the fancier mounts on their temporary raptor, and b) get a hit on the enemies at all, both leading to a frustrated experience for them. But to be fair this it to be expected, a lot of the game (especially base game) has devolved into 'hungry hungry hippos'.

It's great players want to help, just unfortunate many see help as "here, I'll show you how to play it my way' and not actually letting new players breathe and enjoy the thrill of discovery/figuring things out for themselves.

Blame the clowns who just can't stand not having them, regardless of need.

Never liked the:

- oil painting UI, really ugly and confusing
- oil painting map, really ugly and confusing
- the playable races, some are really ugly and deplorable
- the art style and time period of the game with the Victorian Industrial architecture and whatnot...

I can't get past those things so I could never experience the nicer things about the game, provided the game has such.

All in all, the game to me feels like a studio tried to create WoW without creating WoW but making everything just as cartoony and over-the-top and yet somehow different and yet somehow very unappealing. Kinda like Retail WoW - the new graphics made the art style very hard to relate to, but the Vanilla WoW graphics had some charm to them that I just can't put my finger on... is it the low polygon models, the low resolution textures... there is just something that makes it look better than many newer games like FF14, ESO, Guild Wars 2 and many more.

One thing I hated was the dungeons in this game. Back in the day they were rough for sure.

No joke, Mounts Saved GW2, from crashing and burning due to that blundering fuck up of an expansion called HoT.

If not for PoF's Mounts, GW2, would have been sunset by now.

Yes, I'm sure the best mount system of any game killed the game. Definitely. Mmhmm.
