PvP Ranks: how does it work?

StompoStompo Member Posts: 6

Hey

I'm just wondering how your PvP rank is calculated. On the offcial site, I took a look at the rankings but some peeps got a lot of honorable kill and they're low ranked and some got less kills and are high ranked. What gives?

I'll give you my understanding of it... I'm pretty sure it's correct.

HKs mean nothing except to look good. What means something is the Honor you get per kill. You get more Honor for kiling high ranked people. higher leveled people, doing a lot of damage to target (when you're in a group), etc. Just because people have high honorable kills doesn't mean they are getting a lot of honor.

Say two people are level 40. One kills 500 level 31 people, the other kills 200 level 49 people... the latter would have a higher rank because they would get more honor per kill.

That's why I get so mad at people in Warsong Gulch (which is, first of all, a CAPTURE THE FLAG game... not a "try and kill everyone to get high HK numbers" game) who just try and get the killing blow, or just follow their group around while the group kills the enemy. Sure, that guy will get honor, but not as much as if he was damaging the enemy by himself or doing a high percent of the groups damage towards the target.

That is my understanding of it at least... if anyone has any conflicting answers, I'd be interested in learning about them.

That's kinda what i was thinking about. If i understand well, if you PvP in a group you get more honor pts whaen you kill someone?

true that is basically how it works, however worth to mention is the amount of honor u get from winning (well simply completing any of the BG's). for example the WSG as mentioned it can last anywhere from 2min to an hour but in the end u get the same amount of honor upon finishing. (u do get a small amount from your HK but, compared to if u finish it within 5 min, not going HK farming u receive a rather high amount of honor u can then reenter and do that again etc) so all in all instead of spending hours killing the same ppl and recieving the same amount of honor as if u played it stragically and spend 5 min getting same amount.

eventhough it looks like you're about to loose, don't quit BG, u still receive honor eventhough u loose ofc not as much but still a decent amount.

no you got that wrong, killing someone about your own lvl with good honor get's you better honor compared to being in a grp. simply because you deal 100% of the dmg

but as posted b4 it's not about how many u kill but how much honor u get

I'll sum it up you have to sacrifice your  first born and your social life to gain ranks in pvp.

ok, a couple of things have been left out of the explanation.

first off, if you kill JoJoBoomBoom once, you get full honor score for said kill.  if you kill this same toon again within 24 hours, you only get a % of their full honor, the more times you kill this toon in the same 24 hour period, the less honor said toon is worth to you.  i honestly can't remember the % reductions.

secondly, if you're grouped, then you're splitting the honor for each and every kill with everyone else in your group.  part of this is based upon the actual damage you've done to the target, not sure what the rest of the math is on figuring out how much honor each one gets.

but, i know most of the rank 13/14s that i've gamed with, have soloed and/or stayed in small groups apart from the main group, in order to gain as much honor from kills as possible.

all this having been added, you'll gain rank 14 from playing in every BG on your server for a period of 3-4 months.  by this i mean that every single moment a bg is up and running on your server, YOU are in it, every time, non stop during this period.   if you have to get some depends diapers and a 5 gallon jug of water attached to your computer desk..... well, do what you have to do... this is the price you must pay to attain rank 14 via pvp-instance-grinding.

edited to correct a few typos.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

  • Your progress toward your next rank is solely determined by the total honor you got that week.  It is then compared to everyone else of your faction for that server to see your relative amount you move up the "ladder".

So in order to get GM/HWL you must have the most honor for that week or you will never hit that rank, ever.

This is why people who don't PvP about every single day on a good farming team start to hits a wall around rank 12.  What advanced you at level 10 one week could actually set you back at level 12 in a different week.

If you want to know the relative amounts of time it takes to get rank 13 or 14 don't listen to anyone who hasn't reached at least rank 10, below rank 10 is pretty easy.  There is a big change around 10 or 11 when you ahve to compete against the farmers.

If I remeber right honor for a kill has something to do with how much of the damage you caused but is also split by your group equally.  Either way winning the BG is more honor than farming the kills, of course doing both is best.

Getting exalted in AV worked my pretty decently on my way to goal of rank 10,  after I was exalted I just farmed a couple bonus honor weekends to top it off to rank 10.  Losing to fully tier2 double ashkhandi farming team over and over for 12 hours was boring and tiring but even the losing honor for bonus weekends added up to alot.  It was hard for me to believe that those guys would bother doing the same old thing with no real competition for 12 hours straight epsecially when they already have askhandis, but some people are pathetic.

Mostly the reason people have more honor and less HKs is because they run with groups in battlegrounds and win. You can get a lot of honor just by winning a battle, and if your level 60 you gain ranks faster mostly because you are level 60 (the higher your level the more honor) and because you are fighting other people with higher ranks which gives more honor. It can take me forvever to gain ranks because the Alliance are so coordinated and the Horde aren't. Normally guilds do PvP groups so they know they will have the right amount of people and teamwork.

    Who asked you.
