Yeah this seems to be this game's Achilles heel. They don't seem to have conquered the basic concept of an ACID transaction. Not sure why it's so hard for them to solve when so many other games (and e-trade in general) have solved the same problem.

What they need is a database specialist, maybe...
    Anyway, that sucks.

They are progressing, at release there was a new exploit every week, but this should still not happen.

Won't stop me from playing though, it doesn't affect me. People still buy my pearls with their gold, so I'm honestly making a living - I'm only trading through the trading post anyway ;)

Again? Did AGS not learn anything from previous dups? Their code still lacks basic security fundamentals it seems.

Yeah I'm going to play the new expansion regardless. I'm playing on the PTR now testing stuff. By in large I'll play the game solo and do the small group stuff like expeditions and maybe the 3v3 pvp stuff.

As far as world domination of the server and trying to own all the land (which is where these dupe exploits matter because of the financial impact have having millions of coin and owning land) I don't really care. It only affects me as far as the zone bonuses, but if that means I have to walk vs fast travel due to the fast travel prices then so be it. It's a relatively minor inconvenience. I usually end up leveling my gathering skills during the road trip anyway, so it's not wasted time.

They can't easily solve it because a lot of these issues are a by-product of their engine. The game was built on the original clone of Crytek Engine which was licensed back in 2015. The original engine had a myriad of networking issues, that the team was aware of.

Right before NW release, they had a choice of releasing the game as-is, or migrate to the newest version of the Lumberyard which had most of the networking issues addressed. The migration would have taken 8 - 9 months, and the lead of AGS (now ex-lead) chose to release as-is.

Now the team is still struggling with the consequences of that decision. These issues will never go away, they will probably be more rare. Until they do an engine upgrade this will forever be their cross to bear.

The Lumberyard engine has nothing to do with those problem, it's a graphic/combat engine.

The game engine handles all aspects of the game (it is not just combat). Most specifically Lumberyard has build-in networking layer that is used for all networking operations (with exception of chat).

The problems that they face deal with atomic operation resolution times (for eventual consistency). Meaning you can queue additional operations on items that were already transacted, but not settled (i.e. the atomic transition did not finish its execution on the network layer).

Wrong, Crytek was not for MMORPGs. AGS grafted on it, and failed.

I concur that CryEngine was not optimized for MMO-rpgs. However that was the base for Lumberyard (and NW is build on the first version of that adopted engine).

Holy shit, Again? There's no fix to the leveling experience, fresh start servers or expansions they can do that will end well if they can't get a handle on dupe exploits still.

You could not make this up, the game is really struggling due to persistent duping. At least you have a plan to mitigate the issue, unlike some players who just make out everything is smelling of roses.

But will you ever move away from the solo (semi solo or whatever we are calling it) and try the wider game more fully? I assume the solo and small scale PvP has been enough for you so far.

Anyway, I hope this works out for you Angrakhan, keep us posted on how it goes.

That's a pretty good chunk of the game--the core of it--that you're not interested in, but whatever.

Dupes and other financial exploits and the taxes owning companies get to keep after expenses all have a serious effect on the whole game for everyone though: inflation and market manipulation.

It's much more than teleport discounts :)

Right, but your argument seems to be along the lines of it's broken so don't play it at all. I don't see how that's a superior approach to finding the parts of the game that are working well and enjoy those especially considering this is a free update, and I've already paid for the game.

As to the core of the game bit, my personal opinion is that the core of an MMO is what you decide it is. For some it's crafting, for some it's player housing, for some it's winning duels, for some it's large scale pvp, for some it's end-game dungeons, for some it's all of the above. I realize the developers spent a bunch of time building this flawed construct around territory controls and faction vs faction warfare, but if I choose not to give a crap, that's my choice. I paid the $40 for the game. I'll enjoy it how I like regardless of whatever rat maze or treadmill the developers spent all their time and money on, or, frankly, whatever some dude on the forums tells me I'm supposed to be focused on.

If they were asking me to buy a new expansion this would all be a completely different conversation. I'd likely pass.

Not playing it at all is exactly what I've been doing since January :)

I was thinking of going back to a fresh start server for what I hoped was a now mostly fixed game but I'm not so sure now if dupe exploits are still a thing.

Just how you enjoy whatever you enjoy, the lack of integrity in the core of the game is something I find disgusting, Not just how many exploits and dupes the game has had but how many in the player base are ready, willing, and able to exploit every chance they get.

And no the core is not a subjective individual thing of whatever you enjoy - the game is about territory control and the conflict around that - so let's not bicker about what is or isn't its core just because you can somehow ignore all that and enjoy what you enjoy. I'm not telling you to quit lol.

Stopped playing like 3 months after release. The gathering I found fun in early to mid levels but then became a real chore late game. The combat was okay. But it was too much work to make progress for me and the time I had available to me.

At least, from what I recall, been a while.

I do think players can get what they want to out of a game even when everything seems stacked against them. This is what my last three guilds did even though parts of the MMOs were geared to a playstyle we did not want to take part in. Some in the guild did mind you, just not the baulk of us.

Likewise, I have known players who just seem to craft, as far as we could tell the only other gameplay they were involved in enabled them to do more crafting. I can remember the one time this crafter guy turned up to a guild meeting, it was a anniversary of the guild founding and he got a round of applause. :)

But if I was not in a guild I would be in Iselin's position, I would need to feel I am playing enough of the various styles of gameplay to make it a good game for me.  No one is telling you not to play Angrakhan, it just interests me that players do not all play MMOs for the same reason and how over the years we have changed how we play to mitigate issues in MMOland.

Comment for author Christina Gonzalez: Just an FYI, you typed TRAINING when you meant TRADING, in first paragraph.

Late yesterday, the New World team was notified of a major trading exploit that they were yet unaware about. As a result, they needed to disable player TRAINING while they work on correcting the issue as a precautionary step.

It's not so much a matter of Amazon not learning their lesson as it is one of not caring about security when designing the game, then trying to patch it in later.  That doesn't work.  By the time the game launched, it was too late to fix it.  All that they can do now is to strap on more duct tape to fix up particular ways that the game is broken.

To do a proper fix would mean digging in and completely redoing considerable swaths of the basic engine design, and that would break a ton of other things that would take a while to fix.  You can do that when you're in alpha and it's okay if the game is in a non-playable state for a month.  You can't do that with a launched, live game unless you're willing to take the whole thing offline for a while the way that FFXIV did.
