I'm doing my leveling on the PTS. Started today. I'd highly recommend you hold off until that's live in a couple of weeks. It feels so different now in obvious and subtle good ways.
And oh yeah, regarding fresh star servers this was Luxendra's response today:

Been back on Olympus for about a week and a half and have really just been dawdling, and I'm still level 33. Leveling in this game is easy. Now grinding out top gear, that's another story.
From my understanding, the good part of the game is the levelling, so why rush it...?
Have you ever heard of a MMO that down the line made leveling slower? It's a perennial problem, a trap almost that every MMO falls into. With one hand they just added a curated leveling experience to 31(?) and then with the other hand they want you to rush through the entire leveling process.
Some studios have handled this better by having quicker leveling only for secondary avatars, so you have to get one to top level first. But I am not sure if even having two avatars is helpful in NW so that may be a non-starter.
If you have a game that's is supposed to be an mmo rpg, but everyone reach the max level (60 what a joke) in 1-3 months, so its not an mmo rpg.
Just make everyone max level right from start, turn everything in the game useless, like the entire world, material, creatures, and focus on war only, also known as Chivalry 2.
Some people will never understand it, because they never player a true mmo rpg, maybe too young, and grew with all crap companies been creating in the past ~20y.
Fresh servers will be dead in 2 months, at the most.

I think you are being too pessimistic but leveling and end game do pull design direction in two different ways. Pandering to one group of players too much never works well, but here they seem to be trying to please everyone, which can be just as problematic. Redoing the first leveling up experience sits well with new levelers, making leveling faster goes well with those who just want the RvR and dungeons. It would have been better to keep the leveling curve as is and add more content for end game, after all this update adds more end game content already.
Studios need to realise they can only do so much to please different groups of players, to paraphrase, you can't please everyone all the time.

What is the specific need to grind out higher level gear?
For PVP I'm sure, but is NW a WOW style PVE gear grinder with ever increasing power levels? Or is more horizontal in nature with different sets like ESO? Or is it in the Asian design of upgrading gear levels (+1,+2 etc.) by applying buffs obtained either in game or from cash shops.
Perhaps related to the trophys everyone is always talking about which get duped?

Closer to ESO than WoW. And the power level is capped to 625, this won't change. It's also worth mentionning that the difference between 600 and 625 is minimal.

This is just not true. NW's PvE end game is very similar to WoW's Mythic+ dungeons, in NW they are called Mutated Dungeons.
The difference between 600 and 625 is massive, the difference between 620 and 625 is noticeable.
Within a week or two some people will have used lesser known dupes anyway, then some jackass makes one public, everyone abuses it and they have to shut down the trading house again, like it is common in this game.
Then everyone will ask for newer new servers and the circle repeats.

When you get to max level your best bet is to buy some higher item level gear, probably around 550 or higher.
You can find some good pieces for cheap, anything with really good bonuses will be very expensive, but it will get you started.
Then you grind Gypsum to upgrade Expertise stat. There's many different ways to get it. Then you use it to upgrade a single gear slot.
Like you get Gypsum from gathering then you use that Gypsum to upgrade your Great Axe weapon slot (will apply to all Great Axe) from 500 to 507 (the amount is random, I've only seen +9)
You can upgrade one slot once per day.
To get into the real end game, which is Mutated dungeons it's recommended to have a gear score of 602, and your gear score is throttled by your Expertise.
So, you need to grind that Gypsum for a while before you can get to the real end game, or even the middle game. For the Normal versions of level 60 dungeons people usually want around 550+ gear score.
Getting to max level is quite easy now, but while the grind at max level is much better than what it was it is still a grind. AGS really needs to bring down some of the other dungeons because you've only got one level 55 dungeon to run.
Cross server would also really help because getting groups for dungeons can take some time.
I haven't done the PvP so I don't know what's that like.

For now, the first part is just wrong. You can get new gear you may want in the new dungeons, but it still won't be higher than GS625, unlike WoW which increases the gear level with each new dungeon wave.
And about "massive", we probably don't have the same definition of the word.
Can you explain where the "massive" part is in the following example, for instance ?
Respect, walk, what did you say? Respect, walk Are you talkin' to me? Are you talkin' to me? - PANTERA at HELLFEST 2023
From my understanding, the good part of the game is the levelling, so why rush it...?
That's one of the major problems with MMOs nowadays - early MMOs became big back in the day coz the leveling part of the game was fun. People enjoyed the journey, being able to live as their characters. People would spend hundreds of days in a game, becoming invested in the game, the world, the communities. Then... "endgame" became the standard, and everyone now just powerlevel and rush to the end so they can "do their dailies" and grind their endgame gear sets. They end up "finishing" the game in a week, then complain about how there is nothing to do and then uninstalls, forcing the devs into focusing more and more on rushed throwaway cashgrab content that no one cares about.
What's worse is that as we condition the devs this way we are also conditioning ourselves, making our own attention spans shorter and shorter... This, ladies and gents, is why we have aggressive cash stores, lootboxes, and season passes in our games nowadays.
Can you explain where the "massive" part is in the following example, for instance ?
Sure I'll help.
Where the massive differences come into play are usually with percentages, which are heavily abused in all RPGs, that may not seem like much on 1 item but if we think about it for a moment; if your hands, feet, chest, legs, back, head, neck, rings, shield, weapon all get that 1% difference then you will end up with an 11% higher crit chance and 11% more crit damage. That is a pretty massive difference that I wouldn't want to contest in PvP.
One thing you are conveniently forgetting in your little "demonstration"... Those are weapon perks, you can NOT have them on armor. You can only have "Keen" on a weapon. So no, you will not get +11% crit and crit damage.
And you will upgrade your items in time anyway, and seriously, getting
from 600 to 620+ is dead easy, you can even do it solo, one item per
day.
Thanks for the help though... can do better.

As you conveniently forget other perks other armor can give, I am giving an example to your example which answers your passive aggressive question. It can sometimes feel as though you come here only to be insufferable, rather than provide any helpful insight or valuable opinion to anyone outside of "you're an idiot and I am Ansem."
Go write a LOTRO fanfic newsletter and eat some Cheerio's
Well it is Korrigan, so NW had no long-term issues. If you say too many negative things about the game you are attacked, as if you alone hold an outrider opinion of the game. When in fact nearly every review and the reviews of the new dlc's keep highlighting the issues.
I stand by a shut down and overhaul being the only long-term solution, it has been suggested AGS don't want to take the PR hit that would cause which is likely true. If so, we will still be here in another year time with perennial bugs/dupes and the content still being so slowly fleshed out. I would not blame the AGS team for that, running a game and making the changes needed will take years to come.
