With Google Shutting Stadia, The Elder Scrolls Online Offers a Transfer to PC With Progression Intact | MMORPG.com
With Google shutting down Stadia in January, The Elder Scrolls Online will let Stadia players transfer to the PC version with all their progress intact.
I haven't played ESO in a long time but kudos to them in doing this for those Stadia players. Stadia was just a horrendous business model but I'm sure the technology will keep improving.
The annoying thing is; I bought it on Stadia so that I could play it on their cloud AFTER I had already bought Zeni version and was logging into the oriiginal account. So basically this means jack sh*t to me. I'm just hoping I'm entitled to a refund like the email was claiming.
I beta-tested Stadia; it didn't seem like a bad idea when it was just a single game (Assassin's Creed: Odyssey)
I don't believe the tech was ever the issue, the business model and unreliable network infrastructure in underdeveloped (technological) parts of the country appear to be the culprits this time.
This technology can really flourish if the practical network issues can be solved, because there is always something that can physically obstruct the network because of those cable lines due to human error and just the environment.
The perfect system would be a network that can operate and function without physical moving parts, but that's science fiction; heck that's probably beyond science fiction.

This should be a no brainer for an MMO, as all characters and game state information is stored on Bethesda's servers anyway (much more difficult for single player games). Stadia would only have been running a version of the client on their systems. I can't figure out why they are making it sound like there's a lot of work to make this happen...
Good thing Zeni dropped all their Geforce Now player to jump ship to Stadia. That worked out well.
ESO, for reasons that I know nothing about, doesn't seem to work well with all cloud streaming services. They actually suspended the Xbox cloud support back in February "temporarily" due to shit performance (like constant disconnects on zoning) and 8 months later it's still not back.
No idea how it worked with Geforce Now but isn't that just for Nvidia card owners? Not exactly a universal service.
I imagine eventually they'll figure out how to do it in their parent company's, Xbox cloud for both Xbox and PC.
