Overwatch 2 has had a rough go the last few days since launch, that's for certain. The team at Blizzard released an update to the fans late last night detailing ways they are ensuring players can get into the hero shooter.

Obviously it should be removed, just like their AI voice snooping.

They wont implement Voice Chat recording on the most toxic IP that Activision Blizzard owns; Call of Duty. Yet they want to force it on Overwatch?

Double Standards, just like when they re-hired Bobby Kotick to CEO after he knew about sexual abuse for years and said/did nothing.

Phone number requirement is stupid and this is the proof that snowflakes are ruining games. Because clearly the requirement to have phone numbers wasn't there to protect people with thick skins. Those players don't get butthurt someone pointing out mistakes they are making. Maybe it is time to lose all these arbitrary protections and let players actually mature their mental intellect enough where they don't feel victim everytime someone is pointing out the flaws in their doings and instead of take it as lesson to improve.

So, in the future I am going to have to give a gaming studio my phone number? How about also including my authenticated Twitter account (not on Twitter? Make an account!), address and making my global game name my real name?

Only my bank asks for so many personnel details, this is just a game.

If you are following the Roblox lawsuit about their failure to protect minors from exploitation you'll see these companies are caught between a rock and a hard place.

On one hand they are being sued for not properly identifying and protecting children, in a society which demonizes them at any attempts to link their game accounts to their "real, identities.

Seems pretty much a no win scenario.

In the future you'll just have to prove your identity:
     1. Government or government approved party identifies you once in real-life and gives you login to their secure identification service
     2. Afterwards Blizzard's account creation redirects you to that official identification service, where you must login and approve that the service gives your info to Blizzard

Blizzard have form on this, in WoW they tried to change users' names to the names on their credit card, that was rebuffed I can only hope this is. What I would say about the potential abuse is that surely an algorithm could keep track of certain key words which would flag a gamer for investigation by a staff member? This does sound like "we the company do not want the job" so they get all the personnel details and just hand it on to the police when someone complains.

I don't know why Blizzard required phone numbers.  But I will say that Korea requiring a link to a unique identification number, like SSN, means they don't have the bot issues in their games like we do.  Lost Ark devs have tried to get some authentication by requiring a special status on Steam that showed you have spent money on something there.

Talking of OTT security, I had to log into Nvidia Geoforce (why it's just bloody drivers!) then they wanted to send an email to my email account for a verification, then they wanted me to have additional verification on some Goggle app I think it was. GO AWAY!
