Dual Universe Reveals Details of First Two Upcoming Patches, Including Rewards, and a Minor Radar Overhaul | MMORPG.com
Dual Universe has now been out for just over a month and the Novaquark team has given an idea of what we can expect going forward in the first two updates.
Subscriptions are frowned upon. yet i see it as i can play a new game for very little money.
i buy a subscription
i play the game for a month
if i really enjoy the game and like the game and perceive it to be worth its costs further i continue playing and paying
if i find in my first month of ownership (PLENTY of time to try the full game out to a large extent) then i cancel the subscription.
tell me how many games can you get to buy for less than £50 these days? this game is way cheaper than that.
but for some reason people act like they would prefer it to be £50 to buy, play it for a few weeks, find out they dont like it and move on. how is that better?

It's really crazy...I cannot get a handle on the general state of people's feelings on prices. On the one hand, you have people spending $10,000 on a picture of a ship, or mobile game whales spending $1,000 a month on loot boxes. On the other, you have people complaining that $15-$20 for a whole month of play is cost prohibitive, even if you can cancel at any time.
Are these two completely separate populations? Are some of these people the same, except they value the gamble excitement from opening loot boxes such that $1000 a month is worth it, but $15-$20 for mere game service is not?

I would say they are separate populations, those who regard a $1000 a month as spare change and those who do not. The dividing line between subscription and F2P is what holds many back from a sub, the F2P types see themselves as along for the ride, once the shine has worn of the game they tend to move on.

I'd also advocate that there are three separate populations: those spending $1000 a month, those that don't, and those that don't but say they do. I don't understand that last bunch. Maybe there is some prestige behind claiming to be a whale. Probably only in their minds, though.
Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

We have talked before how some of us are dolphins, we don't play for free, and we don't play like whales. For me it is about giving a thank you in a F2P or B2P MMO where I have had a good time. I bought a mount in Terra I really did not need and an outfit and pet in BDO which gave me some marginal benefits but were really just "cosmetic +".
