So after a year, New World has become a good game? do you recommend me to buy it?
For only $20 with no BS P2W or shady item store stuff, definitely yes.

What’s the appeal of starting fresh? I’ve thought about returning to have another look at the game but don’t think I want to start from scratch.
It was sort of fun seeing major cities displayed as unclaimed villages with all crafting stations represented by greatly scaled back facilities, some no more than a wheeled cart or small table.

But in less than 12 hours towns in several  regions started to fall under the control of a few organizations.

I imagine most might be claimed by the time I log in this evening so let the wars begin.

On my server as of an hour ago only 2 territories were claimed.

It just doesn’t seem all that smart to claim and build right now.  Taxes will be pitiful and Invasions will be instant losses.

Will say that once in the 30+ zones they have not been touched so they have the old quests. Run across the zone to here and run across the zone to there. Then back again.  With far fewer fast travel spots.
After the first 2 zones it kind of sucks.

Wasted much of tonight so just got to 40.  Ran Amrine dungeon a bunch because our tank just could not get the drop.  I had 6 of the tank swords he wanted and he kept getting nothing (BOP).  Later we realized you can scrap the unneeded named weapons for Amrine powder (or something like that) and craft the weapons.

I thought Dungeons were supposed to be great XP but it kind of sucked.  Did they remove all the quests from Amrine? (Except the main story one)

The repeatable quest from the dog is turned off because it was bugged, That used to be a huge source of XP there and in Starstone.

There's a second quest for Amrine that you get from an NPC in Windsward if you do the quests there instead of or in addition to Monarchs.

And there are also faction quests for Armine in Windsward just like there are for Starstone in Everfall. It's the luck of the draw if you get them but you can keep abandoning the faction quests and looking again 5 minutes later until they show up.

XP isn't great from doing the expeditions. You do them for loot and weapon XP since you fight a lot of mobs in there.

Good write up, always wondered how min /maxers play this game, my evenings go more like this.

Run 3 faction dailies, (only the solo ones, dump the rest), fast travel is fine but I usually stay off the roads looking for gathering materials and slaughter any animal that dares cross my path.

Friend needs help in an expedition, sure...oh, he completed all of the quest objectives, err, can we go now? No, OK, let's do the final boss. Did we win? No?  Can we go now? Did we win? No?  Err sorry guys, gotta go feed my cats...

Running dungeons 6 times in one night to get a mid level gear drop, who does that? Oh, that's right, Slap and his friends...  ;)

Meanwhile, somewhere in Edengrove a bunch of Angry Earth guarding a grove of Wrydwood trees is about to have a very bad day.....

Yeah, certainly not min/max guys.  More like Try-Hards.  There are level 60s on the server already.

One other reason we ran it a few times was because we all switched roles.  Our Tank never played any games as a tank before and our healer used to be our tank and hasn't healed since DAoC.  I usually play as a healer but I wanted a big Greatsword this time so I get to be DPS.  Others are all using new weapons etc...

We usually hit it hard for a few days/week to try and get ahead of the curve/masses.  From this point on we will fall back to the pack.

Level 60s already? They’ll be having to create fresh servers again next week! ?

It's always been fairly easy to level.   The real end game is the gear score grind.

The reason folks wanted Fresh Start Servers was mostly because NW had such a rocky launch with exploits, dupes and other cheating that tainted the game.

But even at original launch folks got to 60 in just a few days.

Before you go to Amrine, also check the faction board.

It really is about grinding "Expertise", one can purchase GS Level 600 items immediately after hitting level 60 (GS base level 500).

Thing is, their effective GS is cut in half until one levels their expertise to match.

As I don't run high level group based dungeon or overland content my current expertise is 509....on my boots.

Did I mention expertise has to be ground up for each piece of gear?

Yeah, that's a whole lotta grinding.

Wait, there more, the current GS cap is 625 and there only a very small number of ways to grind up to that as far as I can tell.

One things for sure, I certainly won't be getting to the level cap any time soon, perhaps not even in my life time.

GS is an average between your expertise level and the item's GS.
So if you have 508 expertise, and the item is GS600, the real GS is (600+508)/2 = 554, and it will automatically increase each time you gain expertise.

And you can also get a shitton of GS590 items in the world which will keep their 590GS. You even have a quest greatsword in Brimstone that is base 610.

I played for a few weeks at launch last year and didn’t make it out of my 30s! I did spend a lot of time gathering and stuff though. I quite often focus on non-combat aspects of MMOs.
