Wasn't Sony the daddy of MMORPGs at one time?  How the mighty have fallen.

I'm guessing this game wouldn't be a 'traditional' mmorpg since the Horizon world doesn't have magic casters did it? I guess it would be more of a mmorpg similar to Fallen Earth? NCSoft is definitely a weird choice for sure.....

No thanks. Destiny with a Horizon's skin doesn't interest me in the slightest.
Makes more sense to be Monster Hunter with a Horizon skin.

I'm actually kind of stoked for this, if done right. Horizon Zero Dawn was a fantastic world!

    So, releasing around 2030, right?

We are looking at easily four years, so it's a long shot for now.

Why did they give up on the Everquest games they had, they said they  wanted out of MMORPGs and now they want to come back to it.

I like Horizon, but an mmorpg doesn't make much sense. You are basically "the chosen one" in horizon. It doesn't make sense to have 1000s of alloys running around. A monster hunter type thing would translate better, but I'm not a monster hunter fan either

Honestly, I'd have rather seen ZOS get it.

    You mean Zenimax Online Studios?

The Zenimax that Microsoft paid $7.5 billion to acquire a couple years ago?

Yeah, Sony should have gone with them instead.

I enjoyed Horizon Dawn Zero. I haven't played West yet because I don't own a PlayStation. Contrary to Sony Marketing hopes I don't go buy a console due to exclusive titles.

Anyway I'm interested to see what they come up with. My guess is the gameplay would be similar to New World actually. In similar fashion your class might be determined by gear choice rather than fixed in stone at character creation. That would fit the Horizon world and lore. Could be cool. Could be hot garbage. Could get cancelled before it sees the light of day. I just hope it's not a PS exclusive because I'm still not buying a PlayStation to play it.

Well, maybe they saw that Everquest Next or whatever it was, wasn't going to work. The other games they closed they might not have seen a great return on their investment. They see this was a hot IP and they decided it was worth the investment.'

I've always felt that Sony divested themselves of Daybreak because the talent they had assembled wasn't up to snuff.  They dreamed a big game, but management clearly saw that there was no chance to bring their dreams to life.  EQ:N probably looked to be a $10-investment-to-make-$1-return situation, so they cut their losses and moved on.  The ROI just wasn't there.

I'm not sure it ever really got past the tossing around ideas phase, but it was used to help sell Landmark and make people think that they were going to contribute to EQN....

Yeah, Sony should have gone with them instead.
Microsoft has a much farther reach than NCsoft, and NCS and MS are both third parties so Sony pays either way.
    This is a joke ....right?

Nope. Who is NCS going to reach? A bunch of Lineage fans? GW fans? CoH fans? Mobile junkies? None of which are games matching Horizons. NCSoft makes no games like Horizons and has no fanbase for those games. NCSoft makes no games like Destiny 2, even. Destiny 2 made by who? Bungie and Activision. SONY now owns Bungie ( only reason they want to make a Horizons mmo "like Destiny" is because that's the only mmo game dev they own ), but who owns Activision, the home of the biggest juggernaut in the mmorpg space with a veritable legion of mmorpg fans? That's right, Microsoft.  Meanwhile MS can also put  the game front and center of Ubisoft fans, EA/Bioware fans, Bethesda fans, Obsidian fans, etc who all make open world rpgs like Horizons and their fans eat them up via Xbox and PC GamePass ,which stomps all over PS+. SONY still thinks they're in a strong position to do whatever they want on their own and survive. They're not. Bad decisions like this prove it.
Like your commitment but you dont need to keep going with this joke.

Sony can't co-operate with Microsoft like that because they've got too many opposite interests in console war.

NCSoft is a good choice for making Horizons -MMO since they have a lot of tech and experience on making MMOs, but their own IPs aren't so strong that they wouldn't be interested in using Sony's IP.
