November has been a month of expansions and major DLC updates for many a MMORPG. From World of Warcraft's Dragonflight later this month to The Lord of the Rings Online's Before the Shadow mini-expansion, there has been a lot of new content for players to sink their teeth into. But does it still excite you?

I am excited to see expansions in games I don't even play. Its cool to see what MMO's are bringing to the playerbase to keep them happy.

However, I have yet to find my main MMO. MMO's are a genre I have always wanted to get into and was never allowed to play. Heck they wouldn't let me play anything. Now that I have gotten into gaming in my 30's I have tried to find that MMO but can't.

Its not that I don't like the genre but most MMO's have been going on forever and it feels overwhelming to pick up one right now. I did create a Dracthyr yesterday though and I have been having a blast going through the tutorial so far.

I joined WoW relatively late, but the only expansions I have ever felt truly excited for are Legion and Dragonflight. I am weird though, I don't really have a "main" MMO per se.

FF14 is the game I play for Story so I am generally excited whenever there's a new story content drop, even if it's for a set of side stories I've been enjoying. Expansion releases are especially exciting because of the promise of more story.

WoW I keep floating back to because of the gameplay, so Expansion releases are still exciting because it means possible class/spec changes as well as new dungeons/raids to play through.

Sure, though not as much as when I used to play Lineage 2.

This all depends on the company. I have lost faith in AAA companies delivering anything but a cash grab with little thought or innovation. On the other hand, there are some indy games that I really wait for what iteration 2 can improve or create.

    Nope.

The only reason I even go back and play an expansion (for FFXIV) is because if I don't do it on release, I'm going to be spoiled out the wazoo from everyone talking about it, in-game or out.

Playing a game too long just drains all the enjoyment out of it for me.

The woes of getting old and gaming since you were 3.

I recommend finding a guild that you fit in with... it will make the MMO experience so much better!

No, I don't get excited for expansions.

Part of the reason is that I don't have a "go-to MMO". The genre moved away from what I enjoyed and im stuck waiting for design trends to cycle back to my playstyle.

Part of the reason is that every single expansion that I've experienced first hand has made the game worse. I've no doubt that there are good xpacs out there somewhere, just not for any of the MMOs I've played. So, xpacs for mmos are now usually a reason to quit, not get excited.

No, I do not. I like proper endings and to finish things, not to run around in circles constantly. Then again, my hype level dropped to almost sub zero in general. There's just so much of either /meh or /notinterested that I almost gave up.

And I do not have a "go to MMO", so this is null and void for me.

No. Sadly I really I don't. I still play RPG video games but I'm not fussed about mmorpgs anymore. I had great times. I will of course give NCSofts up and coming release ago, and Ashes of creation. AOC.

Yes, but I also highly doubt GW2 has another pitch anywhere near as appealing as Cantha.

The short and Sweet answer is No. Then again even new games don't excite me. Mostly because the balancing and mmo community just turns me off. It's not just pvp games you see it in it's pve games too.

It's not as easy as that, is it? What is the expansion? Does it add or detract from what's gone before? A whole host of questions to determine the answer. Everyone whose been in the MMO world know that all expansions are not created equal

Do I get ad excited as when I was 20? No, I think it's natural that when you get a bit more milage, the unbridled enthusiasm isn't as intense. However, I get plenty excited when something comes along that deserves it.

Folks still have a go to MMO?

To be honest No Mans Sky was the last MMO (bite me its an MMO)  I got excited for updates but then there was too many I couldn't keep up so I feel like I'm in a "catch my tail" loop like a crazy cat high on too much cat nip which turns me off a game.

Sims 4 is where I've landed in all its single player glory simply because I dont have the cat nip buzz every dlc but I crave a new MMO I can keep up with for a year or two at least before I fall off that churn because adult life is adult life.

Sometimes, depending on what's coming with but mostly not.

I don't expect them to as little excites me. So long as they are consistently mostly enjoyable to me I am satisfied.

I suppose I would first need a go-to MMO. Many years ago that was WoW, but that game has bored me for the last time. I'm currently playing New World, but I wouldn't call it my go-to MMO. That being said it's pretty fun in its current state. I've definitely got my money out of it at this point. Still I have very little endurance for end game grind. I can just think of a million better things to do with my time including playing other games, so maybe I'm not the target demographic for this question.

For some games yeah. In regards to wow i lost all hype and interest.

    Unfortunately not anymore.
My urge for something completely new has gotten so big that I just can't play my old "go-to" MMORPGs anymore.
I haven't played any of those since about half a year (longest "no MMORPG" time I've ever had so far) but instead I started to catch up with all the great singleplayer games that I've missed and I'm having a blast doing so.
There is not a single expansion I could think of that would bring me back to any existing MMORPG right now.
I will though come back for AoC, Pantheon, Throne & Liberty and maybe CorePunk.
Here's hoping that at least one of them could bring back the fun to my once beloved genre.

Elona? They used that one in Path of Fire, yes? Entirety of it(Istan, Kourna, Vabbi)?

If so, then yeah, short of recreating GW 1 in GW 2, they really have nothing "big".

When they are expansions yes, but not when they are minor dlc. Few MMO's truly have expansions now; Lotro, ESO and FFXIV spring to mind but they are a rare bird in MMOland.

Cantha was always the most appealing throw they had, above Elona on the community's wishlist. Yes, they have already done all of Elona, Istan, etc.

The best they can do now would be to introduce an entirely new region and hope it lands with players.

Of course. it's the only thing to get excited about in the MMO world anymore since new MMOs (that are worth playing, anyway) don't ever come out.
