And the loser in this whole situation is Microsoft and its shareholders.

You cant make this stuff up. Bill Gates gets a divorce from his wife after allegation of interactions with Epstein. Shortly after, Bill bails out Kotick by announcing they are taking over Activision Blizzard who is head deep in employee tension and sexual misconduct problems.

Activision Blizzards stock gets buoyed by Microsofts plan to buy it. Then Activision Blizzard pulls a stunt where they use customers as leverage against NetEase trying to make them seem like the bad guy. Of course NetEase returns fire. Now 250 million/yr in revenue and a million loyal customers that Microsoft was planning on taking are being used as pawns in a single business transaction.

The corporate world is just brutal. Waiting to see how this effects the merger.

I doubt Microsoft will much care. That being lost is a small percentage of Blizzard's revenue, and even that may not be lost if a deal is struck with another provider in that territory.

    Bill Gates? What the fuck?

Bill Gates hasn't had anything to do with Microsoft policy for a while.

I'm very curious what the exact reasons are.  Someone is playing hardball here, possibly both sides.  Cancelling the mobile MMO was probably for similar reasons.

Hopefully the accounts can be transferred to a new publisher if a deal is made.

Last time Bill Gates worked full-time in Microsoft was in 2008. Also nowadays he owns only maybe 1-2% of Microsoft's stocks. He doesn't have any control over Microsoft any more.

Your conspiracy theory completely ignores the facts.

Maybe they're sick of letting a Chinese company make a fortune off WOW while they make a fraction of that because of Chinese law does not allow them to operate it themselves.

Bill Gates left the board in 2020. Amidst a sexual harassment scandal people. This was less than a year prior to the mainstream finding out about Activision's issues. I guess you could call this a long time if you were the type of person who thinks 3 years of data tells the whole story. Keep up. He is still a major shareholder. 1-2% is a lot. Either way, Microsoft overpaid for a company who is further losing ground. The shareholders should be mad.

Just to clear up some confusing statements so others don't have to go looking it up:

In 2000 he steps down as CEO but remains chairman of the board.

In 2008 he goes from full time to part time at microsoft.

In 2014 he steps down as chairman and becomes tech advisor to the new CEO.

He leaves MS full stop in 2020 to focus on philanthropic endeavors etc etc

Gates led the company as chairman and CEO until stepping down as CEO in January 2000, succeeded by Steve Ballmer, but he remained chairman of the board of directors and became chief software architect.[8] During the late 1990s, he was criticized for his business tactics, which have been considered anti-competitive. This opinion has been upheld by numerous court rulings.[9] In June 2008, Gates transitioned to a part-time role at Microsoft and full-time work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the private charitable foundation he and his then-wife, Melinda Gates, established in 2000.[10] He stepped down as chairman of the board of Microsoft in February 2014 and assumed a new post as technology adviser to support the newly appointed CEO Satya Nadella.[11] In March 2020, Gates left his board positions at Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway to focus on his philanthropic efforts on climate change, global health and development, and education.[12]

All correct except the real reason he left in 2020.

Three years tells us that Bill Gates had left the board way before when Microsoft made their offer of $68.7 billion for Activision Blizzard.

He also could not have used Microsoft to help Kotick when Kotic's scandal blew up because by that time he had already left.

We don't know who in Microsoft made that decision to offer $68.7 billion for Activision Blizzard, but we know that Bill Gates couldn't have made it because he didn't have the power to do it.

    This thread is just amazing.

Blizzard rehired Bobby Kotick? Bobby Kotick has been the CEO of Activision since 1991 and the CEO of Activision Blizzard since 2008.

Bobby Kotick has never been CEO of (or held any position with) Blizzard and he has never left Activision.
