City State Entertainment raises $15M to fund games with massive medieval battles

Venturebeat / Gamebeat has a good article on the latest funding received by CSE which includes the studio's immediate focus which unsurprisingly is not on CU's development and release.

MJ on the engine:
“We definitely want to take to the next level,” said Jacobs. “We’ve solved that the hardest problems, like networking and rendering, and we’ve got it running fast.”

The engine will be able to produce the densely packed fantasy battles with terrain such as a verdant forest full of high-resolution images, Jacobs said. But he acknowledged that it isn’t easy to do, as you might have tradeoffs still between speed of play and high resolutions such as 4K.

“I want people to know just how powerful the engine is,” Jacobs said.

He does briefly address CU's development with the gaming understatement of 2022

“We’ve been working on Camelot Unchained forever, but now we’ll be able to hire more people and can speed it up,” Jacobs said.

It's also clear the studio's focus in the near future is not CU, rather Final Stand: Ragnarok as they need a game to demo their engine in order to start selling it.

“We could [license the technology], but we can’t do that today,” he said.

Jacobs said he hopes to get a version of Final Stand: Ragnarök into the market in a number of months, so the company can prove that its technology works.

and people think Pantheon is a scam or Ashes is.

Even if they are a scam its not by design as they are actively hiring, doing testing, and even showing off updates pretty regularly. I don't think CU ever showed anything but concept art

This will sound really really weird...

Investers are looking for a short game to lose on when the inflation and possible ressession begins. Losing 15 mil can be written off when tax time comes. Investors aren't idiots, look at the people who bought daybreak LLC , they are milking the tax system with the massive loses yearly on daybreak and standing stone games.

until loop holes close, investors will continue to dump money on losers.

They actually have a 24 x3 test server which is open to all backers most weekends, but totally under NDA.

In all fairness, they haven't exactly been showing a lot of progress on the test server from what I've gleened, l don't bother checking it out for myself as a backer since I don't want to deal with the NDA restrictions.

I don't think CU ever showed anything but concept art
They did show more than just "concept art". They have uploaded videos like some NPC running around empty castle, supposedly to demonstrate their "revolutionary, never-before-seen-in-any-game" AI pathfinding, to their official YouTube channel. That video was not received well by most rational people who actually play games, so they disabled rating for it, disabled all comments and decided to stop embarrassing themselves (also notice how "powerful" the lighting system looks like in their "powerful" game engine):

Now they just spin lies in a text form ;)
