Mmo depression.

I have played over 50 mmos. Generally around level 10 I lose all intrest. I will say I played very heavily everquest, final fantasy 11, aion, ragnarok, and finally wow.

Final fantasy I quit due to poor controls (thanks ps2!!)
Everquest I quit just because of the age of the game, I have tried going back, its just not fun anymore.
Aion I loved. But at level 44 the contient simply ended.
Ragnarok I beat to death, got bored.
Wow I hate the direction it has gone, but I played all tier 1-6 content and loved it.

I feel like I can't get absorbed into mmos anymore, do I stop for a few years? Am I just, not forcing myself to max? Though shouldn't I enjoy the whole thang? I'm sad :(

Go back and play some single player games.

Enjoy yourself again. MMORPGs are supposed to be fun like any other game.

Lets say you liked Fighting games but after street fighter Alpha 3 all of them sucked.

Would you "stick it out" and suffer or just goto another gaming genre?

Im sure you would try something else. MMORPGs are not the be all, end all of gaming.

Join the club mate! I am in the same situation...

Trying all kind of mmorpgs, Aion/ WAR/ WOW/EQ2/Alganon/Lotro/AOC/STO etc.

None off them can catch me for a long term. Guess we are really looking forward to something new..

My hope is on GW2 and Rift.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.

Morgrim I would venture to say that at least half of the people that frequent this site are in your same position (including myself).   While I really enjoy MMOs I've had to go back to other genres of gaming to occupy gaming time.  The MMO genre may be stale but the FPS, RTS and RPG genres are thriving.  I've been playing Halo: Reach with friends and having a blast! I'm also playing Mass Effect through again and waiting on Fable III to come out at the end of this month.   Hang in there.  Something good will come eventually.  I'm also waiting on GW2 to come out.

Looks to me like an advanced case of MMO burnout. 50+ MMOs is both impressive and sad.

I'd recommend taking a break from them. If you're bored with them in general, find something else that's fun to do in your spare time.

Thing is, I really enjoy my games, and play a ton so I've been rocking other generas. My other issue is I have about 12 rl friends who look to me for what game we play. I'm afraid I will never feel completely immersed in an mmo again :(

Is it just me growing in a new direction? Even though I miss my mmo experiance? Or are the games currently just not for me?

My first issue would be in stating you have tried 50 MMOs.  How many of those 50 have been P2W cash shop games?

Going just off the the game list here, I have played the following:

    • Cancelled

    1. Auto Assault

    2. Dungeon Runners

    3. Earth and Beyond

    4. Fung Wan Online

    5. Shadowbane

    6. Tabula Rasa

    7. The Matrix Online

    • Released

    1. Anarchy Online

    2. Asheron's Call

    3. Champion's Online

    4. City of Heroes

    5. City of Villains

    6. Dark Age of Camelot

    7. Dungeons & Dragons Online

    8. Entropia Universe

    9. EVE Online

    10. Everquest

    11. Fallen Earth

    12. Lord of the Rings Online

    13. RF Online

    14. Second Life

    15. Star Trek Online

    16. Star Wars Galaxies

    17. The Realm Online

    18. Ultima Online

    19. Warhammer Online

    20. World of Warcraft

This is a list that I am assuming is probably not even half of what you are saying you have tried.  There are some noticeable games missing from my list as well as a few less noticeable but still rather hyped games.  Still, I could come nowhere near 50 games even in adding in those games.  There are not another 23 games that I might have even bothered trying... I might be able to push that list to somewhere between another 5-10 if that.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I think for many of us, myself included, we enjoy the challenge and/or novelty of a game. That feeling of adventure. When these are missing, there's no motivation to play or enjoyment to be had.

Also, people change over time. What you liked to do before may not be what you like to do now. You may not have the same kind of time or priorities as you used to. Right now the MMO market is kind of stagnant, but next year promises to be interesting. Take a break until then. If your friends can't find a new game without you, then they need serious help. :)

I suppose the gist of what I was saying would have been along the lines that you are unlikely to find what you are looking for beyond a certain number of games.  The rest of the effort is just wasted effort.  Unless that trying literally comes down to a few hours or a couple of days as a new game comes out.

With that, you are going to run into the issue of the negative feelings from the previous game affecting your thoughts on the next game.

Games are meant to be fun.  Yes, they should involve working toward a goal...but the fun itself should not be work.  The work should be fun.

Why are you trying to force yourself to play games you don't like?

Do you really care more about what you "should" like than what you do like?

you need a game with no levels. Maybe a focus on class architecture. Have you tried Path of Exlie or Lost Ark ?
