I think this would be an option. Situation: Istaria. Imagine new developers, new (modern) graphic, new territories, more housing construction options...and tons of money thrown into advertising. Absolutely no need to change anything core - just tons of investment while having small, yet loyal, playerbase and some good PR. Cheapier, easier - everything would be perfect.
MMO devs really just need to quit trying to reinvent the wheel and try getting jobs at studios with already established mmorpg's with solid foundations, keep those jobs and help maintain those mmorpg worlds so they last much longer and actually grow.
Also, i heard Blizzard could seriously use a hand; and new management.
The only thing this article strikes true; is that gamers (mmorpg gamers) they honestly just want their favorite mmo they've played for years to be better- they don't want remakes, they don't want new unfinished projects that stay in early access for years and petter out by it's 1.0 release.

A completely redone Star Wars Galaxies. That game was successful because it was truly social, had a real functional economy, and had a choice of severs to play on.
They could use a more modern graphics engine now. They have TONS more content to draw from now. They could draw in older players looking for nostalgia , and younger players looking to play something new.
And there are unofficial servers running the old MMO , showing there is still a player base out there, however small it may be. And that is only because it is unknown and unofficial and unadvertised. If Disney could hammer out a deal with someone like Activision or Sony , and maybe even bring in the dev's from the unofficial servers to show the stuff they have come up with , and the code they have working, it would give them a rough starting point.
I would like to see WoW 2, there is no wow 10, expansions didn't upgrade the graphics enough, we need Black Desert graphics with Wow lore, to people afraid of slow computer loss of players I want to make them note that Black Desert graphics can be lowered to a point they are more slow-computer-friendly than last expansion of Wow.
Also I would like to play Skyrim and Elden Ring with gameplay and commands/spells like wow or Tera, also with questing system like wow (description, help, easy questing, at least like in vanilla wow).
That's my personal preference, not saying is the best, not saying they shuold do or I expect them to add such options for me. So I am looking forward for remakes if they add what I look for.
I've lost hope in literally any MMORPG released in current year. The games industry is just utter trash for something like a MMORPG. It's going to suck no matter what. Due to multiple factors first of which being monetization. Followed by the actual game play. Then the fact that it's most likely going to be a soulless corporation that pumped this out with all the grace and forethought of Peter Griffin using the public bathroom at Taco Bell.
It doesn't matter if it's a remake or something new. If it's an MMORPG it's going to be rehashed formulaic crap that I've seen a thousand times only with a worse monetization scheme and worse game play.
I don't see anything even coming remotely close to bringing me away from City of Heroes, Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies or EverQuest emu servers.

Maybe I should just stop dithering and go Back to the Future!
All mmorpgs are about the same. I've been with ffxiv for a while. I don't particularly support all of it - however some from it has its worth.
I'd participate in other software programs outside of ffxiv simply for a leverage position against power hungry devs. any game maker deserves respect for their creations however it needs players to peddle their machine forth. and as a player, who wants to be treated as a slave?
anyway, hope yall figure out how you would like to relate to wires - with whoever and whatever they are connected and aren't actually connected.
