AGS had nearly all of its projects flounder before he ever joined them, so that's down to them. But he had a questionable gaming history himself; highs and lows, I would be concerned if he joined a gaming project I was looking forward to coming out to be honest, as he hasn't presided over a launch in years.

I played SWG when it was in Beta back in 1996 - 1997.
SWG didn't hit public beta until 2001. Raph Koster once said that development began shortly before the Release of The Phantom Menace and discussed how Lucas Films wouldn't share anything about the upcoming movie and were really difficult to work with. He stated that during most of the development process of SWG all the canon they could glean from was previous movies, EU books and the same trailers we all watched.
I started playing SWG during the Beta 3 stage, my PC wasn't up to it really so i upgraded, significantly, it turned into my favourite game, until CU and then the abomination that it finally became, will never forget nor forgive Smedley for his involvement in destroying my favourite game, as flawed as it was, and yes, i know that Torres (if i remember the guys name correctly) had a big hand in the games demise too.
The games industry is terrible for putting people up as "superstar" devs because they had one hit at the dawn of the industry, Garriort, Smedly, Roberts, all of them bring more flops and disasters than hits yet have continued to fail upwards.

Early in his career he managed to ride the coat tails of some talented people and has not been able to replicate that. IMO games like Everquest were made dispite his involvement. Amazon Game Studios are better off with just about anyone else.

Cancelling the game was a mercy killing from most SWG fan's viewpoint who believe the game pretty much "died" with the release of the NGE which was most definitely under Smed's watch.
As for comparisons, my free time devoted to personal entertainment is nearly priceless, money I can always replace, time, not at all.
Besides, Bernie never stole my money, but Smed definitely ruined a few games I sort of enjoyed.

Smutley had zero to do with New World, and the titles that did launch under his watch, just as quickly went POOF! TBH, I had forgotten he was with AGS, still. He shut the doors on Vanguard, and for that, i will never forgive him.....lulz

Leyou Technologies has the license. Amazon was just going to assist and publish the game. Then Tencent bought Leyou and in the follow on discussions between Tencent and Amazon, Amazon dropped out of the project (most likely over money).

Wasnt the access to mechsuit frames or something a paid for addition? certainly could make the P2W argument on it but it didnt really break anything.
PS1 was a great game and pulled better numbers than the bland, stripped out Ps2, we will never see its like again unfortunately.
