You missed the best one of them all which is in the early access home stretch, Last Epoch.
LE combat is just bad imo , the worst of the bunch , unvisceral , unimpactful , boring .. Now they are saying they are finally getting around to try and liven it up , but I'm not sure they could ever do enough ..
I'd say Grim Dawn has the worst combat. slow and clunky movement with halfass animations.
I do like their overcomplex skill tree, but the combat is really dull at high level. With everything dying whether it is on screen or not, it feels more like a lawn mower than a medieval fantasy character! I understand that ARPGs borrow from the shoot 'em up style with a lot of enemies dying, but with POE, this trend, IMO, is excessive.
IMO in a ARPG to be fun, the build should not do everything itself, there should be some level of player skill involved.
For aRPG to be fun, it needs to be, what I call, "kinetic". You need to FEEL the spectacle, you need to bob and weave, you need to feel the progression without either resorting to emasculation hell at low levels or the mary sue godlike status at high levels. This also necessitates, ofc, proper controls / camera etc.
Not a lot of them manage this. Or, if they do, they fail somewhere else(see: Diablo 3). Iron Lore games(TQ, Grim Dawn) are good examples of such games as are Dungeon Siege 2 and even van Helsing. Oh yes, ofc, Torchlight 2, o mon dieu, how could I forget it? Diablo 2? Eh...it's an awesome game, to be sure, but ... by modern standards? Kinda antique imo.
But given that fun is based on pleasure, it's 100% a subjective opinion ; don't mean that some trends can't be observed or defined though.
Great list but TL2 had its day, im glad you did not add the new one but Last Epoch deserved the spot over Torchlight 2. Good job adding GrimDawn over vanhelsing and other second rate experience games.

And the worse map ever created for a ARPG.

For me best ARPG's on the List are definitely: PoE and Lost Ark
