So for the past few days I've been playing MTG:Arena and really having a blast. The funniest part is building the deck to do battle. And I was sitting here thinking about how SotA has deck building as its main skill system.
Was Garriot on the tip of the next real break through in mmorpgs with actual card based systems in a 3D mmo ?
What is even more mind blowing to think about is have an action mmo that uses randomized action card sets like MTG. Meaning every battrle is unpredictable leaving everything strictly up to buiulding an output of your character with your card sets. Like MTG Arena I've not met one person using the exact card because it is literally impossible to predict the shuffle.
I think SotA was on the tip of something much bigger to come in mmo design.
Currently headed into the game to just mess around

I think that might be what is so stale with mmos. definitive linear gameplay...
