Lost & Left Behind - Ohhhh No!

Okay well the two biggest MMORPG's I've had the chance to play are WOW and GW.

However - I have a couple of issues now.

Firstly
due to a new situation I will find myself in within the next couple of
months onwards I will find myself far far far far away from my PC of
which I can play any games. I will be away from my PC for months at a
time.

So due to this - I don't want to pay to play WOW again. I
don't think I want to continue playing GW - Which is sad for me because
I absolutely love it - But I'm starting to think with me going away for
months at a time I'm not going to have the chance to keep up with the
game evolving - for example every 6 months or so a new expansion pack
will be released - I HAVNT EVEN GOTTEN UP TO FACTIONS YET! And yes I do
want to play them as expansion packs even though they can be played
individually - I want to add them onto my original account and continue
the story on if anything.

So there's my problem - Now I find
myself looking for a MMORPG I can come back to after months of
inactivity and not find myself lost in translation and find myself with
3 more expansion packs to impossibly get through.

I know I could
just change game genre - but this is one of the only game genres I
really find myself to be able to get into and enjoy.

Can anyone
recommend not just ANY and EVERY single MMORPG - but one that I can
really get into - then leave for months and come back to at anytime and
continue without being 'left behind'.

I've done a quick 'look
around' and came accross two MMORPG's - Silkroad Online & Mu Online
- What are your opinions on these? - Better yet and other MMORPG's you
can recommend to suit my situation? They DONT NEED to be free, but
again - I need to be able to justify spending the money and being able
to come back to it without being lost and left behind after months of
inactivity.

I know this might be an easy and hard subject to
help me with here for some - But I truely appreciate ANY help at all. I
JUST WANNA PLAY!

Thanks guys and gals...

P.S - Or should I just stick with GW and spend the rest of my life catching up with the expansion packs?

P.S.S - Just one thing I forgot to mention - Although I have the 'power' to
play games with mind blowing graphics, I am not one to perhaps judge a
game on it's graphics. What I am saying is - Any games you may
recommend DO NOT have to have graphics that are as good as Half-Life 2
Or World Of Warcraft Or Guild Wars - However I wont go any further then
Diablo II in terms of graphics!

it took them one year to bring out an expansion, what makes you think the next one will be in 6 months?

The stated Guild Wars policy is that they will now bring out expansions every 6 months or so. They're already working on the next two.

Anyway, for the OP, I actually think Guild Wars is probably the best thing for you to stick with, simply because the "levelling" factor doesn't really apply. Even if you don't play for a year, and don't have some expansions, you'll still be able to enjoy the PvE and compete with existing PvP players, and have no disadvantage. And it's free.

Otherwise, you might want to try EVE online. You can set a skill to "train" and then not play the game for months, and your skill will still develop. However, you'd need to be paying the montly fee.

Stay away from MU Online. Seriously, the grind on there (last time I checked) was beyond belief. If I recall, about level 15-20 the next set of monsters were stupidly powerful for 'your level' and it would take ages to do any of the 'good stuff'. And it had dc problems like the plague. If any of this has changed it's like a weak version of Diablo 2 regardless.

Silkroad Online; good gameplay, but has lag problems (they are being addressed though) and NPC thief problems. Definitely one to try. Currently level 12 on it. Has a PK system at level 20,and a 'triangular conflict' system of trader/thief/hunter. I'd imagine you'd be smart enough to expect high-levels griefing low-levels,of course, and the immature people. Oddly enough for a Gameguard game, there seems to be little dc problems as well.

I would try EVE if you're willing to p2p and not be 'left behind'. In this game,2-day old noobs can take down 1-year old ships. It's all about good SP allocation and the right gear/ship facing the right ship/gear. No levels, bar perhaps the Tech 1/Tech 2 ship divide, but many players use both and it's hardly a concern. (just be prepared for long travels......but with a mature community np's there either)

Suitepee has some good suggestions.  I feel your pain, because I often get left behind, or at least get the feeling like I am.  I play mmorpgs at a very slow pace, even when I am totally absorbed in a mmorpg, I take my time and never can keep up with guildmates and friends.

An advantage of that is always finding new people to group with.  There are obviously many disadvantages, but nothing that should stop you from continuing to play your favorite game, even if you have to take long breaks.

I've played Everquest II since it was released.  I've taken some breaks from it, usually only a couple of weeks at a time.  However, I recently haven't been able to play it for a long time, but when I returned, I have found that things are basically the same.  Although friends and guildmates are higher level, I can still group with them because they can mentor if they need to.

I don't think Guild Wars is an MMO that you need to keep up with often.  I play it only every so often.  I always can find a group around my level, there are just that many people playing it, with new players and old mixed together, some vets playing their original high level characters, and some who have started over to try a different class.

I haven't finished the original GW storyline quests, either.  I plan to complete them before I pick up Factions.  I figure by that time, maybe Factions will be discounted, it'll be a while from now, heh.

So I again I'd say to stick with the game you like best.  When you come back to it, it'll still be there, with many other players like you who are looking to have some fun with it.

Well thanks everyone for your replies. Seems Guild Wars may just be the one to stick with. I havnt played it in a week as I have been away - I'm so eager to play it again now. I've also downloaded Silkroad so I will have to give that a bit of a shot. Sorry for the late reply saying thanks to everyone for your input as well. As for EVE Online - It doesnt really look like something I would enjoy - but thank you kindly for suggesting it. Also as for EQII - I have wanted to try that game for so long - Is there a trial available? Don't think I'll pay per month - but I would like to try it.

    Thanks again everyone. :)
