    Interesting necro :)

On topic.. Gamepass reported 120,000,000 users last I saw. That is an awful lot of money to divy up with the game makers.  I'm sure Microsoft keeps the majority but even at $10/mo we are talking about over a billion a month to play with.
    That does make sense.

GaaS usually have limited access to limited game libraries. I think I've heard (don't know) that Microsoft's set up will change out games from time to time. So dividing that monthly income among the offered games for that month would make the "contract" more palatable :)

I guess I wonder how that income compares to selling the game on it's own. I don't think we will ever know :)
Who needs a subscription only MMO when it can be part of Gamepass? Sidestep the cash shop (cosmetics only if you must), go for the pass and we have the revenue system that made old school MMORPG's great.
IMHO GamePass is the most player friendly monetization possible.  I get a slew of games I can play for a monthly fee (ridiculously low if you know how to manipulate Microsoft's Gold into GamePass).   True I do not own any of the games and they can and will rotate in and out but 99% of the time I am not going to go back to a game after I finish it anyhow.
The gamepass idea has flourished because of the nature of todays player base. You still hear players talking about the fact they don't own the game, but that tends to be old school types. The baulk of modern players play a game for a few weeks or less (3 months tops if its multiplayer) and they only look at it again if there is a substantial dlc.

For them they don't care if they own the game, the majority don't even bother to finish the games they are playing, so why be bothered that you don't own a game?

GaaS i really do not see any future to it, as was recently mentioned about Microsofts Gamepass, when it comes to developers making use of it, they can end up getting less money than if they had not had their game put on Gamepass, the only difference is they get up front money, i guess even 70% or maybe even less depending on how popular the game turns out to be in the end, can induce developers to take the money rather than gamble on sales. To give an example, a developer makes a game and takes microsofts money to put it on gamepass, but the game goes on to be extremely popular, so in the end, they maybe got half of the games actual value, perhaps even less than that. How many developers would then go on to put their next game also on gamepass? not very many at all, would be my guess. But for developers whose games are perhaps, less popular, then gamepass makes sense to them, it would only be a matter of time then before the best games , or at least the ones that everyone really want to play, are not released on gamepass at all!

How do you reconcile a game like Valheim joining Gamepass with what you posted?  They have a huge hit, and yet recently joined Gamepass.

Because releasing games is a gamble, and game pass takes out that 'gamble' naturally they get less money, but at least its a certainty, if Valheim turns out to be massively popular then it would be interesting if they choose to release on game pass again or not its entirely dependent i think on how confident they are of their product!

No, i would have to look up what kind of game it is tbh. though obviously it has a nordic kind of sound to it, so vikings? okay seriously i will google it, aaand, its some kind of survival game with boats in. I don't tend to play survival games, not since i played Ark several years ago and regretted buying the game, at least i assume i bought it and it wasn't some F2P title :p  Still, if they sold over 10 million copies, which i would assume is outside of Gamepass, then the question would be then, how much did Gamepass pay them and would they have made more money without it? I can assure you that they will be asking themselves that question too.

Sorry.  I know you have an opinion on this but I just don't see it as based on reality.  There are plenty of "hit" games that go to Gamepass.  Games like Valheim.  Games like No Mans Sky.  Among Us. ARK.  All the EA games like Battlefield  and the Star Wars and Sports games...
