this just sounds really concerning.
Im not sure i understand why its concerning.
It reassuring if its anything, it means they are almost ready for beta. <-- And yes, that means they havent been in beta for 3 years, like some idiot said.

The "idiot" who said that Darkfall was in beta is Claus Grovdal, Darkfall's lead designer.
It's been quite some time since we last checked in on Razorwax to see how progress is coming along on Darkfall Online, so last week we sent off a batch of questions for the game's lead designer, Claus Grovdal. Here's what he had to say:
GB: It's been nearly two years since we talked to you last, so can you give us a quick summary of where you stand in the development of Darkfall?
Claus: We have come a long way since the first Gamebanshee interview. Back then we had the four guys in a basement, now we have a team of 20 people working hard on finishing the game. We also moved country, from a basement in Oslo, Norway to modern offices close to the Olympic stadium in Athens, Greece. We all have a nice tan now.
Darkfall is entering closed beta testing in September this year. The closed beta is fully playable, with most core features implemented. We will be adding features and content during closed beta, while we gear up for the next beta stages.
2006 - 2003 3 Years of beta testing a fully playable game
If this game was fully playable 3 years ago then it's going to have more freakin' polish than Paul Shaffer's head.
I'm sure they're doing extended beta testing to make sure that the game has a smooth launch. I'm sure it's not easy to tweak a server that can handle 50,000 simultaneous players.
I really dislike seeing people complain about waiting for a great game. Think of it this way. The longer you wait, the better the game they develop will be.
You don't have any right to complain or did you invest money into this project and were promised it would be released sooner?
Ok a little lesson in betas. There is closed beta and open beta. DFO has been in Closed Beta since 2003, from what the devs are telling us Open Beta is close, Open Beta means that the public like you and me will be able to apply and have a shot at helping them mostly make the game stable.

I don't think so.
I could not agree more, I've stated this many times on the df forums myself. Them spending all their time and money building our dream game really dosent mean that they owe us shit, if anything you owe it to yourself to stick with them and give them all the support you possibly can. I would pre order today even if I wasnt sure I'd ever get the game, simply because this is a far more worth while cause to me then to buy a lotto ticket hopping to win.
Nah I owe myself and them to stand behind them and support them in anyway I can, if only so they can show the people backing them with money that they will get their money back when it comes to release. The more we support them the longer they have until they are forced to release or even worse cancel.

So DFO has not entered Open Beta yet but soon.
A closed beta contains a limited number of outside players I have tested several games in their closed beta stages. An open beta includes a large number of players, usually in the hundreds to thousands.
No outside players are currently testing this game. Until the devs open up and pull other people in, it will continue to be in alpha stage.
But this is all rediculous semantics and I don't really care if you are too stupid to understand how this all really works.

C'mon, all the name-calling makes us sound like a bunch of Comic Book Guys from the Simpsons. Pompous dorks who take fantasy a little too seriously.
Err, whoops, I guess that's kind of name-calling on my part. Damn!

Couldn't have said it better myself. If you're dreaming of this game, stick around... if you've already written it off, then why not take a hike?

I'm going to go check Amazon to see if I can preorder.
We still have a whole beta to undertake.

I've never heard of a 3 year beta before.
Im not sure i understand why its concerning.

They are still in alpha. It isn't beta until people outside of the developers and a handful of other people get to play it.

Eh.. youre pulling out a quote thats way too old.
The closed beta never started.
You should look for facts instead of estimations.
Such as:
"We entered closed beta last week and so far week gotten alot done."
Og and OldMan:
Go check the official DF boards instead of hanging around these crap boards sucking on old quotes...
"Darkfall is entering closed beta testing in September this year"
As in "Darkfall had not entered beta when the quote was made".
Darkfall is not currently, nor has it ever reached a beta test stage.
Once they bring in outside testers, then it has entered beta stage.
