I haven't logged in to the game in years, so I'm not too concerned about a wipe. I can't fathom the game is stable enough to warrant investing enough time into it to care. I just want to play my Ares Inferno in the little dogfighter game just to see if it's fun to fly. It's probably total dog shit knowing my luck. Hard to get excited about this game anymore. According to the website which I just logged onto for the first time in years because I couldn't remember the name Ares Inferno, the last time I gave them money was in 2017, and here we are seemingly no closer to launch. Surely it's time for a ship sale and free weekend, though right?
There is still an outage from the heavy load the game was hit with when the patch released. The status of what's up is on their own page it's going to be rocky for a while apparently https://status.robertsspaceindustries.com
3.18 is a massive update, it outright changes the way you play the game, so it's quite of an interesting time to play SC, for new players not so much as the game still has a terrible onboarding experience.
Anyone can just up to the next free fly and check what's up, but that's probably not soon as this patch release has hammered servers to oblivion.
Never has an article title been so appropriately truncated.

There was a wipe for this patch anyway, so no, players aren't really concerned about another one. And losing purchased ships? Come on with the misleading wording. Anyone able to play long enough in 3.18 and earn enough to buy ships IN GAME might lose them. If they wipe. Anything bought through the website will not ever be wiped.
This game will be at Alpha 7.12 in the year 2055. What a joke.
In the year 2055.... Sharks grow legs and leave the water to become
landsharks; only to go to work on Wall street.....also Star Citizen is
still in alpha, but that's how game development works, if you actually knew anything about game development.
I'd call it a day. The outage was escalated to major outage today as the global database entered a bad state.
Yesterday night was when me and friends got in and servers were giving good shots at getting in... Now is nopers.
I'd wait until next week. It's not like the Alpha is so short that you'd risk missing it.
I think a situation like this is actually more or less expected. New database tech tends to screw something unexpected up, and on top of that Star Citizen is trying to add it to existing servers.

Yeah I understand why this happened, they did indeed replace backend infrastructure and the PTU test servers despite being open to all backers did not hit nowhere the concurrency the LIVE release did, so the proper stress test is always going to be the real environment.
It's the bad with the good, the bad is the frustrating experience, the good is they now know what the failure points are on heavy loads to improve future resilience.
And the oof thing is that after the heavy load stress test is mitigated there is another big one coming, that is the long-term issues that'll pop from running PES for months as the game-world of each shard saves state. So the longevity test is next.

If you're 49, I'd say probably not. If you're 10, I'd also say probably not.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Yeah I was wondering where they came up with that too
Early access is now the new launch, if we are not careful an update will become the new launch!
I am sure it was a slip of the keyboard, but in an industry that loves to move the goal posts it did raise an eyebrow.

I seems rather naff, how often has this issue cropped up?
