Strongholds are amazing and I love them.

Yeah, I liked the elite strongholds too. I did a level 27 one of those in the Eastern part of the playable area and I really had to be on my toes to complete it. I like how the first time you do them you have to figure out the small puzzle of how to complete it while fighting mobs the whole time.

I also ran into The Butcher in a dungeon while playing my rogue (they had him as a random boss spawn and he could spawn anywhere) and he just kicked my ass - no contest :)

Overall, I am disappointed. I remember when D3 came out, how excited I was, how I enjoyed the game that time and just sucked me in. I do not feel that with D4. It looks good but not as good as expected. The fight was smooth but I didn't like the skills and it was boring. I felt the whole game repetitive after just a few hours and I just did not feel I wanted to play this all day, I just wanted to play something else after a few hours. Of course, not a bad game, I will probably play with it for a long time but all just felt soulless, I did not feel the Diablo feeling if you know what I mean.
Also the other players on the map were more annoying than helpful to me.

I liked it, but no multishot on Rogue almost is a dealbreaker.

It's like most people intentionally overlooked the "almost" in your sentence ;)

"Penetrating Shot" or "Barrage" with that shadow enhancement are your new friends and they are awesome, trust me!

I was expecting the comment section to be the usual "Blizzard bad!" or "XY game better than this!" shitshow but I'm pleasantly surprised that I'm not the only one who had a blast last weekend.

Since I had a big party on saturday to celebrate my 40th I only had friday and sunday for testing. Managed to level my Sorc to 25, Rogue to 19 and Barb to 16.

Overall every class was a lot of fun, sorc right from the start while the other two needed some gear/skills to get rolling.

Barbs spin to win move in D4 is pretty lackluster but a bleed/thors build was a ton of fun!

Rogues ability to switch around between melee or range playstyle was also very nice and I had so insane power fantasy with him thanks to some really nice legendary modificators.

Sorc was fun aswell and had even more different playstyles with frost, fire and lightning all having a different feeling.

What surprised me the most was how much better the story is and was delivered. Even the optional quests had some good stories and most importantly it was all very very grimdark. I'd even say that so far it looks like D4 might become the darkest of the series.

Graphics, Sound, gorgeos! Itemization, skill variety, modifications, all great and fun.

Honestly I hope this game get's delayed because otherwise I might miss 2023's entire summer...

Yeah I ran into The Butcher at the end of my first dungeon.  I was mowing through everything and they WHAM…. I actually ran away successfully.  I thought I had just aggroed the boss through a wall so I rested and went back but he was gone. I guess you just get 1 shot at him.

There's actually a very funny video of a group of 4 (including Raxxanterax who is a streamer and superb Diablo 3 player) playing hardcore.

They got lucky when they ran into a very helpful pylon. One ran around a pillar kiting him while the others burned him down thanks to the pylon's power:

Interesting read. I am quite tempted but saving money right now. May be X'mas there might be a small discount on the price I will buy it then  :p

Gone are the days when I could buy games without thinking about the costs. Pension and old age and the cost of living now took care of that.

Great to see folks enjoying it overall , and like I said in other threads for quite awhile now , I have been testing for 6 months , there is so much great suff to see , the open beta only scratches the surface , if you enjoyed that , you will love what's coming in D4.

Really enjoyed the D4 Beta, got to 25 on my sorc, at first I thought I would be stuck picking one skill from each of the "milestones" but quickly learned I could mix and match and there wasn't many reasons to stick with just one element, so was throwing lightning, summoning fire hydras, and covering the areas with blizzards while just completely obliterating the foes.

I was on the hardest world setting and there were a couple close calls with a few of the bosses and events, but otherwise still seemed a little too much on the easy side.

As for all the new features of the game, I gotta say I am liking it more then I expected.

    1. Dungeons give you first time clear bonuses that include Aspects which are Traits you can enchant onto equipment, most of them are class specific so you could be one of those people who likes collecting all the first clear bonuses or just hunt for your specific characters.

    2. They are using their WoW server technology so the maps scale with your character ( For the most part, there are certain zones that are hardcoded to certain minimum levels it looked like ), but its all based on your character, so I might see them as level 22 because I'm 21, but my buddy who is 15 will see them as level 16 and we can still group and be effective with each other, plus you get an XP bonus for grouping with others. This kept the maps from becoming completely unchallenging and it fostered willingness to work with others a bit more.

    3. Map Zones have Completion Rates and Bonuses, this was an unexpected feature, it now shows you the total dungeons, shrines, events, and all that in each Zone and tracks your completion then at certain milestones it gives your entire Account rewards, and not all of them are puny, you even get extra skill points for this. In a Genre that can suffer from the eternal grind, this type of system is great for giving players goals to set themselves and visible progression so that your working towards things and you don't focus on just need to hunt this one item.

    4. Quests,, Side Quests, and World Events, these go back to giving the players Objectives to do to keep them occupied and task oriented instead of aimlessly grinding and on top of that it was great having others drop in and help with the Events, get good loot, crafting resources, and to my surprise get a new currency called Obols(?) that you could then use at the Curiosity Vendor!!! (I.E Gambler), that's right! no more burning through all your gold to gamble on gear, now you can go knock out world events and side quests to get the currency for gambling and save your gold for crafting! This I thought was a fantastic decision.

    5. The crafting, well now there is Harvestable in the world so that's more shiny's to hunt down, and you can salvage gear drops and old gear. I did not see any actual gear crafting like D3 had, however you can destroy Legendary gear and extract the Legendary Traits they have ( Aspects ) and then embed the Aspect in another piece of gear turning it into a Legendary, so if you find one that has a good trait but garbage stats, or its time to finally replace a legendary you've been using but you dont wanna lose the trait it provided, you can keep that going. Also there is the ability to reroll Prefix and Suffix on Gear if you have the crafting mats for it, aswell as Alchemy Potions which seemed to give minor buffs for 30 minutes and all of them included 5% XP Gained for that time( You can only benefit from one potion buff at a time it seemed ). It was fine, I thought the having to upgrade your health potions a little odd, but it didnt seem a bit deal, the monsters constantly seemed to drop potion "orbs" so I cant say I miss having to potion spam and either drop bunch of gold to restock everytime in town, or constantly farm potions out in the maps.

If I had a major complaint it would be that in towns with all the other players the game could lag/stutter a good bit, theres been tons of complaints about it, and its a known issue so its not just on my end. Thats what these betas are there to Stress test though, so hopefully they are putting in the work and addressing that now before the game fully launches.

When they read some feedback from D3 they took it literally. Make the game darker meant to make it mature not to use a dull limited colour palette. Even dirt can have a wide variety of colours Blizzard. Touch grass, literally.

This is like playing D3 on POE filters with lower shine.

Skill tree is nonsensical. Inefficient, ugly and hard to scroll/watch. Even D2 skill tree feels more polished.

Gameplay is just D3/Inmortal with some LA movements added. Decent but I expected way more.

Story (didnt get far) is not bad. Probably the part that has improved more. Sadly is the least important section for this type of game.

Not bad but needs a lot of work.

Game with a bit of polishing can be an 8 but monetization is gonna be the real issue in the long run. Really scared about that.

    I partly disagree.

Yes, the subject matter should be darker but if you look at both dialbo I and diablo II they are both visually darker games.

Diablo III was horrid in its color palette.

I think they made a wise decision in their art design as it looks much better.

After you save the first village that cut scene really gives you a glimpse of how the tone of the game is going to be set.  They did a phenomenal job making you feel the dark and depsair in Sanctuary.  You can tell even before Lilith, ppl were on hard times, the church scene somewhat touched on that.  A hard winter, poverty, evil, the struggle got conveyed real well in D4.

Honestly Im glad we didnt get D2 version.  Im glad we got this version.

I enjoyed my time in the beta as well. I really suggest spending the hour watching Kripparrians take on the beta. The best and only take you need to get a full grasp of what the beta presented and concerns for the future. Very open and transparent while also touching thoughts I would never consider.

I watched that video still watching almost done and I am quite taken aback by his comments. He did an in depth look and there were very well thought out and my god quite scathing too. He seems to have a very deep understanding of the game.

What he says makes a tonne of sense and even though you can say he had only 25 levels the way he critiqued the game isn't hampered by it because of what he criticized the game on. On a lot of points he made a very good case and explained his reasoning very well.

You should watch the video I recommend it.

That was actually a very good and thoughtful take on D4. I was instantly hooked when he showed his Hydra Sorcerer which was built almost exactly like mine even in the fine details of enhancing fireball for that juicy AOE on mob death (also funny how he described it as "corpse explosion like" which was exactly how I thought of it when I was playing) and his dislike for the Barbarian gameplay although he went into much more detail about it where I just said "Barbarians and Spin to win suck" earlier in this thread.

His cons were quite thoughtful and I definitely agreed about that obnoxious dungeon mechanic that is grossly overused of go find items to put on the pedestal to unlock the final boss door gimmick.

His criticism of Blizzard's style of level scaling was also right on the money. Both in WoW and once again here I consider it a lesser way to level scale compared to ESO (all mobs same level - players lower than that level get a basic bolster but in no way are they ever a match for a fully leveled player much less ever being better than them.) It's a clunky scaling system and I'm not a fan either.

But that might just be a leveling artifact that becomes irrelevant in the end game when you and the mobs are maxed and you control difficulty yourself.

Anyway thanks for linking that, it was worth watching.

    That's an interesting take.

In no way is D4 a perfect game, but D1 and D2 were the ones that really sucked me, and got me hooked on Diablo as a product, and D3 was the one that just had a much harder time getting me to play. Enjoyed it, but there was nothing about it that glued me to the screen, or made me want to go back once I put it down. I've tried a couple of times, but something about it, just never grabbed me.

I think D4 reminds me more of D2, and I wish I could say it had all of the things I loved about D2, but it's got more than D3, and for that reason, I suspect for me at least, that it's going to be a welcome addition, and going to recapture much of my love for the series.

I definitely heard the same feedback as yours from other people though, definitely not a one size fits all title, and sorry it doesn't scratch the itch for you.

D4 feels so much like Diablo Immortal it's a hard pass for me. And what's up with no Paladin/Crusader or Monk at launch? is Bli$$ard gonna release those as paid DLC later? Just another reason for this to be the first Diablo I pass up at launch.
