Almost $190 million went into industry startups this week, a significantly greater amount than the previous seven day period, which saw only $37 million injected into the ecosystem.

Of all the funding raises, Web3 gaming developer CCP Games, a Reykjavík-based startup, managed to secure the largest amount of cash over the same span.

It closed a $40 million seed round led by prominent venture capitalist firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z). Participating investors included Makers Fund, BITKRAFT, Kingsway Capital, HASHED and Nexon, among others.

“With advancements made within blockchain, we can forge a new universe deeply imbued with our expertise in player agency and autonomy, empowering players to engage in new ways,” Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, CEO of CCP games said in a statement.

This round of financing will be used to accelerate the studio’s development of gaming in the virtual world.

Isn't this CCP the same CCP that made Eve Online?  If so, how on earth does anyone consider them a 'startup company'?

I think the right headline would be Blockchain gaming.

Very few gaming studios these days are reliant on Blockchain to fund a cryptocurrency specific project.

As much as people want to tie the two together, Blockchain and cryptocurrency are not the same thing

Numbers floating with no context means jack shit. Give us some actually useful information.

    * Investment in blockchain gaming vs Investment in proper gaming?

    * Number of blockgames released in last 12 months vs proper games?

    * Sales figures for crypto games vs proper games?

$190 million sounds like an impressive number, but that's less than one AAA game.

All your figure really tells me is that some investors are speculating with risky investments. Same shit that's been going on since people with money started investing in other people.

Come back and keep stunting for this shit when there are some worthwhile games to discuss.

One thing that stinks to me about the whole web3 gaming is the decentralization factor. How the hell is that going to work with an intellectual property such as an MMORPG? It sounds like it would be a logistical, legal and financial nightmare.

Hey, remember that time when Binance was sued by the US government because Binance knew their cryptocurrency was being used for money laundering for organized crime and terrorism but looked the other way?

    Yeah, good times.

Don't follow the money when crypto is involved, you won't like where it leads.

We don't know the investment to all gaming, but revenue is estimated to be about $5 000 million a week.

If Bcbull's numbers are representative, that would mean single week's gaming revenue would be about equal to whole years blockchain gaming investments.

I defend the right of BCbully to do one of his occasional crypto love in threads, but the money you would be following is more likely to end up going down the pan than being an investment.

There is something of a rumour going round that the 'investors' backing the game are a bit dodgy, as in very. All things considered, i am very surprised that CCP is even getting involved in such a thing. But here is Kira, someone who i trust a hell of a lot more than some random crypto bro, when it comes to such 'scams'

Fun fact of the day north korea stole 1.7 billion dollars in crypto in 2022 alone thats only 1 country on the world scale how much more will be hacked in the coming years, I think I need to give my friend kim a call about this.

I don't take any crypto bill board posts seriously anymore I scroll to see anything new when it comes to the sales pitch but sadly I don't see shit here thats any different the the usual.

At least I got an internal chuckle out of this thing again with something actually new being talked about ig.

Let's hope the new generations are not drawn into this. This is what we need to protect. Other wise this will slowly slip to bee the norm and online gaming will no longer be a place to play but a place to earn companies even more money.

Crypto gaming is a joke at the moment. Every one of these startup companies launched their game token/currency at way to high of a price and wouldn't let the investors profit. Then they expected gamers to buy way more in game currency to play/access the game than they were earning by playing the game. They were all scams to get money from people.
In order to earn the trust of the gaming community back, they're going to have to accept a certain concept. Pay your community to play and profit from your game as you the company do the same. No one will accept wasting time only to be scammed once again.
The old adage says, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Bottom line: Bring back old school MMO and pay people to profit from your games to make amends to your investors.

You do realize all crypto is money laundering, right? legally, every programmer in the world can be put in prison for crypto scamming on some level.
Crypto was supposed to be a gaming concept. It wasn't supposed to be about Ev cars, Ev Batteries, and the Petro Dollar. It was exploited as such. Crypto was going to help people survive covid19 and evolve a boring grind in gaming. The rich and powerful destroyed this great idea. Don't buy their cars.
