Life By You is an upcoming life sim by Paradox Tectonic that aims to give players ultimate freedom in the game world. And after chatting with studio head Rod Humble from Paradox Tectonic, Bradford came away thinking that it was pretty ambitious, but exciting to see unfold.

    No mention of NFTs?

I want to create a foul-mouthed massively racist jerk who spouts obscenties at everybody and calls people names. I want to go around and change everybody's house into a pile of dog crap. I want to direct NPC porno movies, and try to get the other real players into massive orgies.

How are they going to stop me?

Well maybe that's too pessimistic Olepi, but I do wonder why people want to play what they do all the time anyway, real life.

I was just thinking of all the griefers. People who camp the respawn point to kill the newbies over and over and over.

What is going to stop one of them from doing what I said?

One feature they listed is "change the color of someone else's curtains". Well, I want to change them alright :)

I don't think you can kill anyone in this game, shocking I know. :)

If they put the content in that's fine, but you can't replace combat with nothing. I note with interest that they have put in survival mechanics but make them optional, it should be pretty obvious to us whats going to happen there but the designers seem not to understand...players will turn on/off selecting whatever is the easiest way to play.

Clicking instead of going to get a drink will result in a lot of clicking, pretty damn obvious really. It is puzzling that there is a designer still out there that has not realised that nearly all the players will take the easy route. That does not mean we all want an easy as possible game, just given the choice we take the lazy options when we know others will be doing just that.

They are going to let us add our own code. Have a bush with a piece of code for peeing. So pee on a bush. And we can change what other people have done, add code, etc.

So a griefer could enter everybody's house, add some code to the chairs that calls them a racist term when they sit down. Or makes a fart sound. What is going to stop them?

I think missing that this is a single player game not an MMO. So, it is changing an npc house, not another player's house that is being referenced.

You had to go spoil Olepi's fantasy about peeing on Bradford's bushes?

Ah, when they said it was a successor to Second Life, I thought that meant it was also multi-player.

Nope. If I want a Real Life Sim, I'll get off my PC.
I play Games to get AWAY from Real Life, not to Mimic it.
    A Huge NO for me.

I'm right there with you. Unfortunately some people feel their life sucks so much they make a world in a game like this where everything is perfect and then "live" in it and feel better. This tends to also lead to more poor interactions in their real lives as they only then tend to think about their perfect life.

Playing house doesn't mean your life sucks any more than playing violent games doesn't mean you aspire to become a mass murderer.

That would be awesome, but unfortunately it won’t be possible.

I also realize I never put “single-player” in the article, so I apologize for the confusion! I’ve edited the piece to reflect this moving forward.

However, investigating the culprit of who is messing with my bushes would be an interesting premise for what would make a weird play through of this game. :P

This sounds too much like The Sims.  That probably means its success will depend directly on the AI behind the game.  Scripts might not be able to provide that.  I guess we'll see.  Not me personally.  But someone will see.  Maybe.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Here are some of the things I was thinking about while reading this article.

Will there be swimming, able to dive under water? Will we be able to change our PC into other races (modders having a fieldday)?

Maybe it is just me, but I can see through modders help and hard work, many worlds being born from medievil to far out sci-fi.

Was just thinking this looked like an NFT game. Let the players do the coding and the art then let them sell it in game and the devs take a cut.

Maybe make it a blockchain game where it keeps track of stuff like that.
