I wish them all the best, but the way they adressed the "sub plus cash shop" monetarization to their community sounded quite condescending and made me stay away from this game.

This looks like a non-p2w Runescape. From what I've read this is a passion project, so there's a chance it'll actually be good. Looking forward to trying it.

Eh...I guess time will tell. There will be a demo so I guess that's already a leg up on Ember Adrift's launch.

I've played this game for two tests its had, one about 9 months ago and one about a month ago.

It's a great little indie mmo.

Yeah ''indie mmo'' is somewhat counterintuitive, normally, as most indie devs trying to do an mmo can't get a game working well or having enough content to hold the game together.

As of the most recent tests, i'm getting 100 fps with maxed settings ( I'm playing on a laptop with a 3070 8g)

These devs seem to have their heads switched on, the game has a bunch of robust gameplay loops ranging from crafting to pve to pvp, exploration/secret discovery, world events and more.

I saw today they will be having a ''free to play'' section of the game at launch where anyone can come and try it (the starter island, which you can get around 20 hours of content from if you did everything, it also includes a dungeon with 3 bosses).

    Subscription/cash shop:

This is a live service game, there are multiple devs working on it full time, so there will be continuous updates and improvements, the $10 a month sub is going to be regionally priced so it's fair to people who don't earn as much in their respective countries, from my experience so far you will get far more than your $10 subs worth from this game, if you're on the fence, try it for free.

Cash shop - the devs have stated no p2w nonsense, strictly cosmetics.
It's 2023, everyone is doing cosmetics now, thank god they're not doing any p2w at all unlike some other mmos/devs.

In general, it's a good idea to play a game before you post something negative/positive about it. You can't trust what you read on the internet.

"From what I heard" is not fact.

The game is free to try it.

Imagine opening up your own restaurant and before I even eat there, I post a negative review in the local newspaper. How would you feel? What does that accomplish?

This game will be amazing, there will be tons of content and things to explore. The basic framework is there and overtime can only improve. Very excited for this release.

This is just a straight up lie.

This game was available as a demo on steams next fest. It was okay, but very slow. Very very slow. No diagonal movement, kinda slow combat, lots of classes that I can recall, but I remember it being very group oriented.

I mean, definitely give it a try. But I feel like based on the last test, it still needs a whole lot of work before it's going to start appealing to a lot of players.

As an indie if they only expect a small number of players I think they might get it. It's probably a great game for small guilds looking for something very slow paced.

'oh no, the devs are going to come over to my house and force me to buy totally optional cosmetics, my life is ruined''

ya the multiple full time devs working on the game need to eat and provide for their families, i don't think $10usd a month (also with regional pricing, so probably $5 in a bunch of places) for a live service game with on going support is a lot to ask.

oh - they spend their own money up front to create cosmetics that you can choose to buy?

    How terrible of them.

If you don't like cosmetics, dont buy, ezy.

So far the vid has me intrigued but I dont listen to any fanbois or employees at the start.  Way to much shilling happening at the start these days.  Additionally so many games remove negative posts from there forums so I cant even look there for more info. I will wait until I get more info before I try this.

Best of luck! Always happy when people make their own game. I do, however, wish everyone who made a game in unity didn’t use the same low poly model pack from the Unity asset store. It’s a solid set and a time saver, but there are other models you can buy to set yourself apart imo.

That's great news for fans of sandbox MMOs! It's always exciting to see new games in the genre, and the launch of Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore sounds like it will be worth checking out.

Going to try this out on Day one, seems like a game worth trying, with runescape vibes.

I take one look at this game, and it's a no go for me. I know graphics don't make the game; but it does make it more enjoyable. I don't enjoy blocky pixelated garbage; which is also the reason why I don't play Minecraft. We are decades past the need for such low quality visuals. They could have used the unreal engine, and at least tried to make a reasonable good looking game. But that is just my opinion. I know this is a indie studio; so perhaps they don't have the "talent", nor can afford to hire it. If the game is fun, and not another grind fest boring slug of garbage, then enjoy.
