New World has loosened restrictions on characters per server, making it possible to create a couple of alts or transfer over. There's also a brand new Forged in Aeternum all about balance, including reflections on Season 1, Fellowship & Fire, and balance changes on the way.

Wait what....Server has no char limit, but region has...Clearly that must be bad choice of words, because if that is not true, then you are still being limited to 3 characters. Because first you choose what region you are playing (EU, US) and then you choose server where you play. If region has 3 char limit then you can't create more than 3 character in server.

New World discovers the concept of alts... about bloody time especially since due to server merges most of us already have them.

Now how about making gear account bound so you can pass BOP items to our alts and giving us the basic functionality to pass things to our alts at all since there is no mail system nor shared storage so you currently need to ask a friend to hold anything you want to pass along while you log-out and log-in the alt.

Hopefully (for their sake) it won't be too long before they figure out that many things that are standard in other MMOs are not evil and there is no shame in adopting those things you didn't invent yourself when they're good staples that work.

I already had 2 characters on the same server because it merged. Now I guess everyone can now too.

Before you could only have 1 character per server, now you can have up to 3. They did not increase character limit, just the restriction of 1 character per server.

Yes taking advantage of server mergers allowed this anyway, but now its easier todo and a supported feature.

This would have been nice from the get go and I maaaaybe might have played a little longer, but probably not. It would have made the entire journey a lot more enjoyable though.

The reason I stopped playing is because I don't like the end game grind and and I don't like how irrelevant most crafting was and how that all worked at end game too. To me, the entire system ended being poorly conceived and executed and it felt dumb.

The lack of shared storage between characters and no guild storage along with very little useful reason to dump lots of gold into a house only aggravated that entire feeling.

NW is a good game and I really enjoyed my time (my guild was excellent) and certainly got my money's worth. Just have no draw to go back anymore.

Crafting in New World is most definitely not irrelevant. The entire game revolves around it. I honestly don't think you understood the game if you feel that way.

I guess they finally acknowledged that spying on the opposing faction wasn't nearly the problem they thought it would be and those that were determined to do it could simply buy another copy of the game and bypass the character limit anyway.

I said most crafting was irrelevant and that is true. End game crafting, especially around gear score and buff grinding, is completely different from how it works while leveling. I absolutely do understand that treadmill in the end game crafting cycle and I don't enjoy it. End game crafting also doesn't reflect what I want to play in an immersive RPG world. It feels like a GaaS game grind system to me and it pretty much is, complete with daily chores.

Your reason for stopping sounds more well-defined than mine. I did the grind - got my GS to 625, stockpiled enough gypsum and umbral shards to probably do a second set of gear to 625 also. Did my dailies and so on...

Then one day I just didn't feel like playing but thought I would be back the following day. Then I didn't. and 2 days became a week and then weeks. I actually felt guilty at first for abandoning my guildmates who were all great people but I didn't even know what to say if I went back for a visit because honestly, all I knew is that I didn't want to play anymore.

I can analyze its strengths and weaknesses logically but that's not new - I did that while I was playing too.

No idea if I'll ever go back but no desire to do so right now.

We all eventually quit playing a particular game once the fun comes to an end.

Not always easy to quantify as to the reasons, just something you know inside...like what the definition of a "real" sandbox MMORPG is. ;)

I'll bet your former guildmates would understand why you left, likely they've ghosted similarly a few times themselves.

Cheers and good luck at whatever the future holds in life and in your gaming.  :)

That's true especially with online games. I think "end game" in MMOs is tricky for any game, not just New World because it often changes how and what players do. My interest drops off quickly with most MMO end game chore grinds. I still think New World is a good game and worth playing, especially for the box fee.

My guildies have Discord and I mentioned to them I was burnt out before I stopped playing, so we're still in contact. I'll probably join them the next mmo/multiplayer game they pick up, and then leave again when end game grind happens.

My next multiplayer game will probably be Diablo 4. There aren't a lot of other new MMOish rumblings on the horizon that I've seen.

This happens to me sometimes with any game I'm playing and it drives me crazy. It often happens when I hit a point in progression where I have to make some big decisions and decide how I'm going to build or move forward. I'll stop for a day or two, and then one day I'll look and see I haven't played it in weeks.
