Honkai Impact 3rd had really interesting and inventive series events like this over the years; so it's nice to see they are doing the same thing in Honkai starrail. :)

Sadly, just a way more boring game than Genshin Impact. Even if the characters are interesting, the world is quite bland and dead feeling.

I haven't played Genshin Impact; but I can say is that HSR is a bit bland. I was on the fence on this game, because of the gacha. I've kept hearing good things on it; so I gave it a try. It's decent for a free to play game. The anime visuals and voice acting is good. Combat is ok, and I am quite used to turned based combat. I like anime and scifi; but I've played better JRPG's.

I feel like it's more like there just isn't a lot to do. I log in daily, but after wasting the time gated points, I'm done. It takes a total of 10 minutes. Genshin felt like there was more to do because you had to be way more active. I just auto everything in star rail. and I'm done for the day.

Much like Honkai Impact 3rd and Genshin Impact, the magic is in the pudding; or to be precise, at the bottom tucked away in a hidden space at the bottom of the container; and it's a very large container of pudding.

Without getting too convoluted, the popularity is more in the fandom the games create; because the characters are so well-done and all crafted with this otherworldly-amount of love and attention to detail. The gameplay and systems actually take more of a backseat compared to the characters and world building; and if the character's don't grab a person when they play these games- they likely won't stick around.

In fairness to StarRail, it did just release; and it's at version 1.0.5; which means it has quite a long while before it can fill the world in with content; it took Honkai Impact 3rd a number of years before it begin feeling 'feature-complete'- so by the time StarRail gets to a version like 2.0; it'll likely feel like a vastly different experience; by then the rpg elements will likely change a lot to; these guys like to tinker around with their games alot and sometimes game systems are completely overhauled.

I guess what i'm saying in too many words, is maybe try again in a couple of years. xD

Games not really for me. Mainly the difficult level is too low and not alot to do. The style and all that is fine though.

yeah i wouldnt recommend HSR as your first gacha, its not that great or amazing. the hype is overblown, for that turn based style of gacha id recommend epic seven instead.
but for casuals who want active gameplay genshin is still the best

I agree Epic7 is a great gacha game for starting out.

To be even fairer to StarRail, Genshin's explosive popularity in 2020 didn't help give the next game a careful lens for people to look through- i feel like the vast majority of SR's hype is absolutely coming from people going in thinking it's like Genshin- which it really isn't, it isn't even like Honkai Impact 3rd.

I feel like HSR just needs the time to grow and try and become it's own thing that can stand on it's own without the help of previous games from MiHoYo.

After Genshit made them insane amounts of money, and as the apparent bulk of its "players" evidently didn't want to play a game, but have an experience, that is all but completely devoid of difficulty, that's pretty much what one should expect from future offerings from miHoYo.

Then just as a kid would think their favourite cartoon is there purely for their enjoyment, but the company behind it just had it made to sell their toy line, or whatever else they're selling, by getting kids emotionally invested in those characters, and world, that's what the content in Genshit amounts to, interactive ads for its gacha. Again, since doing that made them stupid amounts of money, we can expect the same formula being used by miHoYo for at least the foreseeable future.

Long, and short of it is if you're looking for an actual GAME to play, that will provide you with challenging, and compelling content that is there for the sake of making it a better game, completely ignore anything this company puts out there. It should also be noted that while defenders love to point to how much money Genshit is still making, an ever increasing percentage of that money is coming from China. Earlier on Genshit was at the top, or near to it in about every region, with about 30% of its revenue coming from China. Now, it isn't in the top ten, or maybe not even close to the top ten for a number of regions, and over 50% of its revenue is coming from China. This will also only work to have them be increasingly focused on the interests of their Chinese market, not just for Genshit, but their other things pretending to be games as well.
