As gamers we are no stranger to delays, and Airship Syndicate's latest game, Wayfinder, has taken us on quite a ride with a new beta test as part of their Early Access delay. Will the delay be worth the wait?

It is you.
It is 20-30 people per open world zone, you can do with that what you want.
Well, that is most mmos per zone, some even less.
I guess so since PSO2 NG has about the same amount of people per area and is called a mmorpg.
Was still very early. A lot of missing cutscenes, placeholder NPC models, a lot of bugs through out in general.
That said, I've seen MMOs release in worse shape, so ... I don't know how much that means.
The gameplay itself was smooth. Reminded me a good bit of Tera with the action combat style. The only real hiccup with the combat I found was mentioned by the OP - lack of soft targeting meant that melee folks ended up chasing and missing a lot, which was kind of frustrating, but I just took it as me needing to get gud - not so much a flaw with the game.
The art style is a bit reminiscent of Wildstar, I admit - but I think it reminded me more of LoL (and since this studio did a LoL game, I guess that makes some sense).
From what little I got to play with it - it seemed to have a decent mix of open world and instanced content, although it did lean very heavily into the instanced side of things and required a lot of runs through the same / similar instanced dungeons to complete quests. There was auto-group matching, not sure if you could customize it or shut it off, but if you spent more than 60 seconds in the queue it would just throw you in solo. At least for the low level stuff I was doing I didn't feel disadvantaged for the few times I ended up solo - either the balancing was that good or there just weren't very complicated mechanics yet
Would I buy it, or subscribe to it? Hmm.. that's the question. Even in just this short Beta window it was very, very grindy. Yes, you could customize your instanced runs to be exactly what you want, but you still end up running the same things over and over - even at the lower levels. I admit - the combat was slick enough I probably would buy it, but sticking with it would depend greatly on how the community comes up around the game and how well the devs can foster the player base.
There were a lot of various mechanics - maybe it was just my short time with them, but they didn't all feel fleshed out and a lot of them just felt thrown in there to give people something to chase without having a big impact on the game. For instance, I kept getting ability points, but all my abilities were locked so I couldn't ever spend them?
a techno-fantasy action-hero-collector in a rough-state not even in Early Accesss yet,
that works exactly like Warframe in terms of grouping, gameplay mechanics/progression and monetization.
How about setting your expectations to THAT, instead of "meh-ing" apples not being oranges.
Distasteful apples and oranges still rot in the trash heap all the same. Just as this game will. Because this game is garbage.
It's trying to sell early access. NDA still. Keeps getting delay after delay.
Looks great yet everything else is so abysmally poor.
I was genuinely looking forward to this. I got into the latest test and now i have just zero interest now because it's just a mess. This isn't a mess a few month of delays can fix. It's basically everything outside of the graphics and no amount of feedback I can give the developers will fix this. Outside of early access founders sales this game is going to have a rough 1st year. Miracle patching or abandoned to behonest.
maybe the shutting down part...
Seriously though, the art style looks like WildStar. Take that person in the center with the skinny limbs for example.
