According to their forum, the weird "everyone always faces the camera" effect is because they don't have an animation for walking forward yet. They do plan to add that later, however:

I do think that this is the first time that I've seen an early access MMO that didn't yet have an animation for moving forward.

The who 2d sprites in a 3d world is weird to say the least. But yeah I can't imagine launching a game in that state. Ive never played it but if they can't even do a basic a running forward animation, how bare bones is the rest of this "game".

Hi, I'm the main developer of Cinderstone Online. Making all the characters animation walking forward they asked us 8k€, so we have decided to postpone it and prepare it before launch. You are talking about launching the game but the game did not launch, it will launch later on this summer.

For making animation for running forward we need to make all the sprites for every weapon, every armor, every hair, every character customization that has its back to us, plus for these frame we need all the animations for every skill and every movement (70 different animations).
So no, we have decided this is not our priority and spend the money on adding more mosnters, more bosses and more content.

Seems to be a issue for others.

I've bought plenty EA games, though I will admit some I deeply regret because they later became abandonware.

Purchase at your own risk I guess. Not sure if there is a roadmap for this game or not, but might help some folks on the fence, even though those can be taken with a grin of salt as well.

There's nothing wrong with saying that you're just not going to buy the early access.  Buy a game when it gets into a state where you'd be happy to play it, and not until then.  And if it never gets to that point, then never is the right time to buy it.  If it does reach the point that it's a terrific game, then what broken states it was in at various points in development is no longer relevant.

Well this game pretty much failed. They didn't market it properly to the correct target audience; which should have been made for kids, more simple and not buy to play.
