Lost Ark has been one of the most successful MMOs in recent memory, having maintained a strong user base, consistent updates, and a thriving community. It's not always been perfect, but overall it's always great to see an MMO reach this level of success, and everyone involved, from the players, to the people working on the game, all make it happen. We spoke to CM Roxanne Sabo about the future of the MMOARPG here in the West.

That's very unlikely. The most likely scenario is that the player count will keep dropping slightly for a while and then will stabliise and oscillate between 10k and 30k. Too many whales are invested in the game to just abandon it and Smilegate will keep giving them something to sink their cash into. Plus, there will always be the trickle of new and returning players checking out the game and then leaving again.
Also, I can't imagine Amazon taking such decision considering their reputation in gaming. They will keep the lights on even if the population should drop dramatically. But as mentioned, my expectation is 10 - 30k players and that's where the game will stay.
A better question is what will the Korean studios and publishers take out of the LA's EU/NA experience. The wrong lesson would be to just not bother, keep developing their style of MMOs and for their much smaller audience. The other option is to realise that there is a huge potential - 1.3 million players in this case - but their crappy game design costs them dearly. Whether losing 99.8% of your player base within a year can be offset by catering to your Korean whales is a question only Smilegate and other Korean studios can answer - but ultimately, there's 1.3 million players who were curious, but then were left unsatisfied and have moved on.
